Thanks for the info DB, I have no issue with sponsoring her...by saying she is on her husband's visa was to let Mum's know that she is not on a company/ local's visa. btw, I know of a few mums that share maids if they live in the same area. Works out fine :-) This is 100% illegal. There are many Men around of many different nationalities doing many different jobs whose job it is to identify and report this type of arrangement to the CID. Why risk it for the sake of a few thousand dirham annually? If you can't afford to sponsor a maid/nanny legally, then you can't afford to employ one at all. The fines are very high for this, also.

hi there... sorry to hijack the thread but just wanted to say that if this particular indian lady who has worked as a teaching assistant before would consider transferring her visa to maid visa then my friend who lives in Executive Towers may be interested in hiring her. It will be purely for childcare as the family does their own cooking and the apartment they live in is fully serviced. Do let me know... you (or that lady) can email me on horizonmum2 at gmail dot com

Thanks Mums, Maybe not the best idea from all your information, I think I'll stick with company part-time help. Thanks all.

beesknees - FYI I live in the marina next to the metro station and in the last 4 - 5 months, the police have been doing a sweep asking domestic workers for id and who they work for.. a little close to home for you so be careful.

That may be the case BK but if said maid is found out ( deportation) and a huge fine for you and other Mum If she commits a crime against your family, theft etc which does happen then you don't have a leg to stand on as your cannot report it. Plenty of moonlighting maids got caught recently in my building and the authorities carted them off
