Is there anything else I can be doing to help bring some relief to DS? He has a cold and his nose is very blocked. He's getting quite upset while trying to feed (BF) I'm using saline nose spray, have a humidifier on in his room, Karvol near the head of his cot.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I tried the vicks on his feet today and also sprayed his nose 3 times with the saline spray (instead of just once like we had been doing because he always cried!) He's breathing through his nose much better now and no more crying with the saline so he must be used to it - Thanks! :)

not sure if still in cot but raise the top end with a few big books under the legs, some cots actually sell these as additional parts to be able to raise, in such instances, we did it with our DD when she was 5 months old and helped her when she was stuffy, plus everything else below, bit of karvol or vicks in hot water in the corner of his room, ( as long as he is safely in his cot) it will diffuse into the air and hopefully help him breathe. or use a little cup to feed him till his cold passes as he will struggle to breathe if he has a cold, a cup takes forever but its an option. good luck.

Try putting the Vicks on baby's feet then socks, it really helps. We also put similar stuff on DD's feet when she has a cold. Works a treat! OP, whenever my DD has a cold I make her bedroom a little warmer. Obviously you need to be cautious not to let the baby overheat, but making the room slightly warmer, in our experience, has helped.

I've also been putting Vicks Baby Comfort on his chest and back, it's sort of like Vicks Vapor rub but for babies so was hoping it would clear him up a bit but it hasn't. Might try the BM though, thanks for that Pentel! The wonders of BM ;-) KS, my sister told me about sucking it out with your mouth, though I'm not too keen since DH and I are both full of cold as well (Damn open plan offices and people not staying home when they're sick!) Will try the massage though - thanks for that :) Poor wee thing, also has a cough and it's really messing with his sleep. Still in good spirits but won't sleep and grumpy come feeding time.

This is quite gross but if you are desperate you can use your mouth to suck his nose clear :(there are things you can buy that do the same thing without you having to get "you know what" in your mouth.) You can also massage the sinuses right before a feed, its a bit hard to explain but basically you put one finger to each side of the nostril and move in circular motion, working your way up the outside of the nose and under the eyes, it temporarily clears a blocked nose, even on an adult (DH thought I was a magician when I did it for him one day) Personally I would try method B before method A, but there are no limits to mother love ;)

oh poor babe! sounds like you're already doing everything, maybe put some karvol on a muslin and hold it near his nose just before he feeds, DD once had a blocked up nose and I squirted some BM up there (expressed and then used a pipette) and it cleared it up - BM also v good for gungy eyes!
