i always though that inorder to protect the babies ears u should breastfeed during take off and landing. however last time we flew i was told not to do that, not allowed as baby needed to be facing forward, sitting with his back towards my tummy?

Easyjet's website says you can't BF on take-off and landing but it doesn't say anything about having to face forward. I fed DS on take-off and landing both flights over Christmas, though, and even when the crew walked past they didn't say anything. I don't remember any such rule from when I worked for EK. But I do remember several crew members who seemed to make up their own rules and try to apply them so I'd have to go and smooth things over! I always breastfed our LO at take-off and landing but find it hilarious that easyjet would say no. I guess one might have to pay extra to be allowed to do that :)

Sounds like you got an over zealous crew member. I don't recall anything in the DGCAA manual (safety rules/operating procedures) saying that a baby must be sitting forward facing on the mother's lap. Babies are squirmy little things, rules of this nature just can't be aplied. If I were you, I'd just smile sweetly + do my own thing! (Once the crew member has passed their security checks all clear to their senior in which ever section of the aircraft they are in, they too must take their jumpseat for take off/landing, and they have to remain seated too. So when they are sat down get your boobs out + away you go! :)

good to know. i breastfed anyway but was just getting abit annoyed with them. Oh don't worry - I was travelling solo once and was feeding DS (then 3 months) - or was he asleep in my arms because I wasn't allowed to put him in the bassinette? - when a stewardess came and politely asked me if I could control my DD (then 2 yrs) more because at that point, 5 hours in to the flight, she'd escaped to stretch her legs. Er, let me think?! At this particular point in time, I'm finding that a bit challenging - fancy actually helping out?!

I have taken more than 20 flights before my DS turned 12months and each time he has been breastfed take of and landing. He always had the child belt on him too.

lol - tell them to f off (politely!)! It's relatively easy to feed whilst bubs is in that extension belt thing, so go for it. In any case, I've often thought that the baby restraint on a parent's lap is a token measure anyhow, because if there was any impact and you had to lean forward suddenly, you wouldn't be able to without crushing them. Doesn't really bear thinking about.

I remember that was told to me once, but with baby #1 I wasn't breastfeeding so it was easier to give a bottle/pacifier. Does your baby take a pacifier? If not, I would just breastfeed and ignore them but keep the seat belt on the baby.
