I stopped bfeeding DD at 21 months and fortunately she was the one who decided milk from her cool mickey mouse cup was more fun. during my pregnancy she would sometimes ask for my milk and i would tell her that since she became a big girl and stopped all the milk finished... Now i'm bfeeding her brothers she has started asking again. i've avoided saying no but don't think i can dodge it for much longer.

any tips?

Most likely if you let her have a taste she will think its yucky in comparison to what she usually gets to drink and will prob feel her brothers are quite hard done by!! :) I've often read that this is the way to tackle this, Good luck

I stopped breastfeeding 6 months ago and everytime he pulls my shirt down he would get near it but just stick his tongue out. I agree with BFC in that they forget how to suckle.

I think it's quite common. My 3yo dd did the same when her brother was born. I'm not sure how old your dd is now or how long it is since she last bf, but she's most likely forgotten how to suckle. If you were to say yes, she would probably try to latch on, suck a couple of times, realise it's not working (aha, because "she's a big girl now!") and not bother asking again. If you don't want to do that, I think your approach is a good one - explaining how she doesn't need it now as she's a big girl. Maybe a new drink (different kind of juice/smoothie???), or maybe a new cup might help her feel more grown-up and less in need of milk? Also ensuring that she doesn't miss out on mummy cuddles and special time may help (it may well not be a milk thing, but rather a way of making sure that she hasn't lost mummy's affection). Also, some mums find that a special box of toys which only comes out during baby feeding time helps to occupy older siblings - perhaps she might enjoy this that she doesn't focus on the feeding issue as much??? Good luck! xx edited by BFC on 12/07/2011
