just fyi CH charges 1000 AED if you decide to do cord blood collection
What do you mean ? That City hosp charges to collect blood cord . This is illegal !
I mean when I had a look around maternity ward 2 weeks ago at CH, midwife mentioned it so I dont know if it is new charge or not but this is what I was told by hospital staff directly.
I'm delivering at Latifa, so I'm not sure how they'll organie it but I'll call the place who spoke to me there and ask them the process.
!
Also delivered at Latifa and did the storing with Dubai Cord Blood and Research Centre which is located next to the hospital. Very happy with service there.

We did it in August last year at Medcare with Dr. Yuliya Mikhael and Biovault. They give you the kit in advance and you take it to the babes birth and hand it over to the nurses/midwife on duty.
The way we looked at it was that its like insurance, you hope like h3ll you don't have to use it, its expensive and not entirely worth it if you look at it as a lump sum, but what if.... Costs about 13,000 for 25 years storage if i remember correctly so thats just over 500 when you break it down, so we went for it.
In terms of the process, your OB does the procedure, its not invasive in that you don't feel it at all. They cut a section of your cord at the same time that its detached from the baby - so really its just one extra cut and a clamp. To the best of my knowledge it doesn't involve the placenta at all, only the cord. Some view this as taking away blood that would've gone through to the baby, but you have to weigh it up and decide I guess. As a procedure here anyway they don't let the cord pulse unless you specially request it in your birth plan.
We did it when our LO was born in June last year.
We let our OB know in advance, brought the pack with us on the day and all hubby had to do was call the courier to arrange pick up. The actual process of snipping the cord and putting it inside the container is done whilst you are still on the bed recovering. You would have no idea that it was being done unless someone was describing it to you and usually it is done away from you anyway so you don't see anything.
Certainly City Hospital gave us the impression that they perform the procedure very frequently and our OB made sure all the processes were followed accurately.
I would definitely do it again : )
I did it with my first who is 18 months but not my second...not really sure why? As for someone pulling out your placenta, the doctor who delivers your baby does it.
