There is some great advice on here. I think seeing a professional would be a really good idea. Here is a list of IBCLCs (the top of the line when it comes to lactation consultants)
Dru Campbell, midwife and IBCLC Baby Clinic and Midwifery Clinic, Health Bay Polyclinic Tel: 04 348 7140
Dr Delphine Dupuis, family doctor (special interest pediatrics, lactation and women’s health) and IBCLC. Speaks English and French. Sun and Wed am MediCentres, Motor City Tel: 04 360 8866 Other days Symbiosis Healthcare, Healthcare City Tel 04 3624955.
Fatima Jaaoura Baigar, midwife and IBCLC. Speaks English and French. Symbiosis Healthcare, Healthcare City Tel 04 3624955
Also, formula isn't your only option when it comes to supplementing. There is an information milksharing site based in the UAE at www.facebook.com/hm4hbuae Mamas of babies of any ages can ask for milk for any reason. It's totally donation based so it's free. You can check it out and see if it would work for you but it's worth seeing if you can build your own supply up by seeing an IBCLC.
Hugs to you. x
Mothers milk tea is a herbal tea that also helps with supply. You can find it in life pharmacy al wasI also swearby oatmeal it has really helped with my supply. I pumped for 3 months while baby was in nicu and always had an oversupply.
Found it:- Jungle Juice Recipe
50ml Blackthorn Elixir (aka Schlenen's Blackberry Elixir)
1L Apple juice
1L Water
1 packet Rehydrate or equivalent (Blackberry flavour tastes best)
1 CalCvita tablet
10 drops rescue remedy (don't think you can get this here, but it's quite ok to leave out)
Drink
2L in 24 hours, then 1.5L daily until milk supply established or one glass with each feed.
Refrigerate, keeps for a week

Aryanwynn, if you could post the recipe, that would be great! We're going through a bit of a stressful time at the mo and i think my milk supply is suffering as a result so could use all the help i can get! Any idea where i could get hols of some of the elixir you mentioned? Thanks!
Hi LMAO, I ended up ordering mine fm the UK, if you have anyone there coming back perhaps they can bring you some. I did see some here in one of the pharmacies, but sieve brain can't remember which... Will post recipe as soon as I dig it out. :)
Well done Jojo! Im really happy for you that you seem to have it sorted now! Good on you for sticking with it!

Ah Thank you so much for your kind offers, we are doing great and almost back on track!!! I couldn't find that anywhere in Abu Dhabi, but I took a few extra Fenugreek Capsules and now we are back on form. It was such a weird time....now I'm back to feeling a let down,if not 2, and baby sucking well that he empties both breasts sometimes in one feed. Im still pumping a lot to try and convince by body I need it so I'm gradually getting my supplies back as well. I also contacted LLL here in Abu Dhabi, who were amazing and really added to my support along with you guys.
Thanks again for all your help, I STILL LOVE BREASTFEEDING!!!!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, love and god bless x x
JoJo, there's a La Leche League in Abu Dhabi and they are meeting this Sunday, here is the website, http://www.llli.org/uae.html
There's also a facebook group La Leche League UAE, its very active and someone will get back to you with advice, you can also email or call Marie Claire or Noura for advice.
Marie Claire is lovely and will be happy to give you advice, I hope that you can get things back on track.
Good luck xxxxx
Jackie
Thanks LMAO, that's kind of you to recommend Cecile, however I'm in Abu Dhabi and think I'll struggle to get up to Dubai in the car with his feeding habits right now!!! I think your all right, I need to see someone now who can actually help hands on.
x x
Jojobaaklini how are you doing?
Just wanted to add - that elixir recommendation I posted below is the one Cecile also recommends - calls it Jungle Juice - you add a couple of ingredients to this (applejuice etc) and drink a few litres a day - works like a bomb. I can find the recipe if you want, but it does work just as well on its own. I have had 4 kids and it's the only thing I have ever used (besides another heavy duty drug for when one LO was in hospital for 10days and the milk totally disappeared) that actually worked. Please trust me on this one, I was a midwife many moons ago... :)
I've almost never felt letdown, from day one and I always struggled to pump anything, and yet my baby grew and grew without a single formula feed!
Here is a link to a list of breastfeeding support and LC's int he UAE. I would get checked for tongue-tie, there are obvious types and then there are less obvious ones like posterior tongue ties and upper lip ties which are often missed. AS far as I know Dr Delphine (Dr AND LC) is the most qualified person in the UAE to assess for this so it might be worth making the trip (her details are in the list I've linked to). My son had a tongue-tie corrected early on but nobody (in doha) ever picked up on his lip tie and I only realized myself when his top teeth came through and I could see a big gap between them.

Thanks LMAO, that's kind of you to recommend Cecile, however I'm in Abu Dhabi and think I'll struggle to get up to Dubai in the car with his feeding habits right now!!! I think your all right, I need to see someone now who can actually help hands on. I understand what your saying about tongue tie, but I'm sure I read that if he can put his tongue out lower than his bottom lip then we should be ok, that he can do,if not further! What you've said about the letdown would make a lot of sense, Im only feeling it in the mornings these days, sometimes very rarely in the day anymore, does that mean milk isn't flowing?? Ok so I'm going to stop asking questions and seek professional help...... Thanks again, it's soooooo good to know other people got through this stage with great success
Much LOve x x
From what you describe it doesn't sound you necc have a supply issue, it sounds more like your baby is not keen on the speed of your letdown. The exact same thing happened to me at around the 3.5 month mark and its very common around this age, especially if you are also giving bottles of expressed milk. We all have different breast capacities and letdown speeds, so although 99% of women can make "enough" milk there is great variation in how we need to feed our babies.
I would personally suggest you see a qualified lactation specialist, rather than Cecile who is as I understand it not a board certified LC but rather a midwife/sleep trainer who also gives advice on feeding. I say this because there are some issues than can affect feeding, such as tongue tie, which can be tricky for someone not specifically trained to spot, and also because I know that Cecile advocates feeding schedules and gives some other advice which is quite contrary to advice from major bodies LLL, AAP, WHO etc and that could be detrimental to your situation (although it sounds like LMAO is finding her useful so you never know). In my situation abandoning a feeding schedule altogether and letting my son snack frequently (he refused to feed for more than a minute or two) was the key to getting through this time along with avoiding all distractions, feeding in quiet dark spaces and when he was drowsy and avoiding both pumped milk and formula so that there was no fast flow/nipple preference for him. I thought BFing was over at 4 months, I ended up feeding for 22 stopping only due to pregnancy. It can be done.
There was a post on this a while back and I wrote a longer explanation, will see if I can find it.
Hi Jojo
sorry to hear you're having such a stressful time at the mo. to be honest, i would say you might be best seeking help from a professional who can probably answer your questions and come up with solutions for you better than we can on here, even though there has been some great advice given already.
I have been having problems with milk supply for my 7 week old, and her not gaining weight so have been seeing Cecile - a midwife who is excellent with feeding issues. she has a very good reputation here in Dubai and many EW ladies swear by her. She's really helped me so far and i think slowly but surely we're getting there. As you've already said, stress is one of the worst things for your milk supply so maybe seeing someone for help will start to reduce your stress too?
If you're interested, I can post cecile's contact details on here for you? Sending big hugs, i really feel for you. having feeding probs is the absolute pits! xx
Thanks for all your help and advice. I'm still at a loss but trying put him to my breast at every given time. He just gets so fed up and frustrated that the flow Is so slow?? IM pumping and in the morning I can get a good 150 ml from both sides out in about 10minutes and but after that feeding and pumping for the rest of the day becomes a nightmare. He still has wet nappies and is happy and playful when awake but come feeding time he gets fussy and won't suck! Any thoughts, I truly don't want to give in. will my baby just not sleep if he's hungry......?? Would he just cry and cry til he eats? Or is he sleeping knowing he's starving, am I endangering him by sticking with it or shall I mix a formula? another question, I have the medela swing and fter the morning pump I'm running empty, is the breastsheild the wrong fit, should I try a bigger size or is it the supply? I read that the wrong size fit could also affect the ducts or milk supply. How do I know how to fit it, should all my breast fit inside the cone, as I have the 24mm one but have DD cups???? confused and getting stressed, another downside for my milk...... Pls help x x
Is your baby showing signs of not getting enough milk (ie lack of wet nappies/not gaining weight as per WHO (not CDC) charts etc) or do you just feel like your breasts aren't full. I ask because its totally normal to not feel full anymore by the 4 month mark as your breasts stop over-producing so you tend not to ever get engorged. So long as your baby is latched well and you are feeding to demand (ie if you baby wants to feed every 2 hours, or more often, you do so, and don't try to stick to a "schedule" then you are very unlikely to just "dry up" for no reason.
The extra pumping is generally if your baby isn't trying to suck themselves, better to just feed as frequently as possible if your baby will go along with that if not then yes pump, you might get better letdown if you pump while breastfeeding from the other breast.
Do keep in mind if you give formula then you will make less milk as your baby will demand less from the breast so be careful with doing this.
One last thought, could you possibly be pregnant? A friend of mine ran out of milk and that was the reason!
No I'm a SAHM but we've just run dry! I was advised to pump after each feed to try and "pretend" it's baby feeding to boost my supply......is this not how it works? We have had feeding vacations and skin to skin feeding most days for the past week but nothing has boosted it I'm just at a loss, I was hoping to wake up this morning to find the Milkman had been but sadly not.....I think one more day to use to frozen supplies I have and then it's over to formula for a while :( A bit gutted as we are going on holiday next week and I have no idea what to take with regards to formula and bottles and cleaning et all....... Hey oh
thanks for your comments and help x
Are you back at work? Is that why you are pumping so much?
My friend has just been through the same thing, and her doc told her to only pump the feeds she misses whist as work and to feed naturally as often as possible. It worked well for her.
Hope you manage to find a good solution for you. Good luck :)
Try to get some Schlennen's Elixir. It is natural and works very well. Other names are Blackthorn Elixir. http://www.weleda.co.uk/immune-support/blackthorn-elixir-200ml/invt/203004/
Hi Ladies, can anyone please advise me what to do next......I'm very sad to have to say it but it seems my milk has dried up even after taking FEnugreek and Motilium and pumping for a few hours each day. I really feel that I'm not ready to give up without more of a fight but have no idea what to do next if I'm not satisfying my four month old anymore. He's been moaning for a few days but has always gone off to sleep with a dummy so I didn't think anything of it. however tonight I tried him with a bottle of pumped milk and to my surprise he stayed awake and was looking for more. I gave him almost 200ml in one feeding so I think he was starving bless him!!!! Should I just give in and deal with it and switch to formula feeds or is it worth sticking to it bearing in mind I only have about a full day of feeds from pumped milk?
Please help a heartbroken Mummy x
