It won't be long and he will be rolling back...I've just gone through this on my 3rd child .....now his just learnt to roll back but he gets in such akward positions now lol he always manages to get stuck like at the edge of the cot lol. I put a couple of teddies either side of him so he could only roll on his side to begin with. Now his clever and flings them out the way and only sleeps on his tummy now. :)

My DD was at this stage a few months ago and I posted the same question and was given the advice that either they need to learn to roll back or be comfy on their tummy. Usually I'm there in a flash, day or night, to turn her back so she never had a long enough chance to figure things out herself. One night she woke up screaming and I left her to cry, which was awful, but she fell asleep on her tummy and since then she has slept on her tummy! It is a stage and it will pass but maybe some tough love so your LO can figure it might be needed...

if he manages to defeat the towel, I used this http://www.safetsleep.com/shop/safe-t-sleep-sleepwrap-key-b/classic-sleepwrap-babywrap your baby can roll on to their side but no further. As PM says though eventually they do need to learn to sleep on their tummy and roll back and forth, loads of tummy time by day will help with this.

Thanks ladies. JackyD, i've just put a rolled up towel by his side and stood at the door giggling as i could see and HEAR his frustration trying to launch himself over it. I had to go in twice to reposition it, but he is asleep now, on his side! I thought id experiment during daytime so i am not that anxious in the evening. Thanks again x

My housekeeper - a mum of three - has put a rolled up towel next to all three of my kids that she has been around for and I think that is the best solution. You put the top of the towel near the baby's shoulder or armpit. She also went out and bought little light weight pillows in the shape of cylinders that she liked to use. If the towel is tightly rolled (even put a rubber band around it) and the baby is in the middle of the crib it's pretty hard to see how a baby can hurt themselves.

I feel for you :( You must be very tired and worried at the same time. IMO it's part of their growing up process I've spend at least 4-5 nights on the side of the bed when DS did this in his cot He was rolling on his tummy me rolling him back They learn soon to turn back or get their neck muscles strong enough to turn their head This phase will pass too

Although we are very proud of our son's new found ability, it is keeping us up at night and just seems to be so uncomfortable for him. Even daytime naps are challenging. He rolls over and starts to cry. One of us has to turn him back again just for ds to roll over again. Its a viscious circle.im scared of putting anything in his bed (towel, wedge etc). I increased tummy time so as to 'teach' him to roll back onto his back but until he can do it ... Any advice?
