Recently it has come to my ob/gyn's attention that my blood pressure is elevated. It usually keeps in 138/88 or sometimes 140/90. I have done a urine test to make sure I do not have protein and it turns out I do not. She said she is just watching me closely, but she is not prescribing blood pressure medicine just yet. I was wondering if any of you have had the same experience. Since I do not have protein yet and my blood pressure is borderline, it is not considered a preeclampsia, but I wonder how your delivery went and if you were able to control your blood pressure.

I have eliminated all salt from the diet and I do not eat anything processed, from the cans, etc... Taking blood pressure everyday to make sure it is not going up anymore.

I have been having borderline blood pressure. I am monitoring it every day and visit my ob/gyn once a week. I hope it will be OK.

You can still develop pre-eclampsia at any stage up to (and even after) delivery. I have been monitoring my blood pressure at home. I will see my ob/gyn this week again to make sure I do not have protein in the urine. My blood pressure so far have been in 130s. I will keep monitoring it as I know it may spike at any time. I really hope I will be able to sit through the pregnancy. Right now I am almost 34 weeks. I see some of you are not too far and I think if the gestational age is not too far along, bp medicine will be prescribed. I have been writing my blood pressure down to make sure I am not going 140/90. This week only once it went to 141. So far the rest of the days it stayed 135 on average. In those cases we need to be vigilant. I have cut all the salt from the food and I noticed my feet are no longer swelling that much. I really hope I can keep it below 140 until I deliver the baby, which will probably happen end of March/beginning of April.

beatles19- dont think you need to be worried with every pre natal check up your bp and urine is checked, atleast mine is since 12 weeks. I was diagnosed since my bp was constatnly higher than 140/90 or borderline 139/86. The OB's pick up anything suspicious right away so enjoy your pregnancy!

Hi ladies! today is exactly my 28th week of pregnancy..from what i read, this is very common from 24th-28th week.. does this mean i am no longer susceptible to pre-eclampsia or im still at risk? i have a type-2 diabetes before conceiving and i have a poly-cystic ovary. I took glucophage and combine it with a good diet and exercise. i lost 15kgs and after 8 years of waiting, I got pregnant. now i haven'y done the GCT or GTT yet..but im constantly monitoring my glucose level and for fasting i have 105-110 and 117-125 2 hours after meal. my BP is usually normal from 110/70 or 120/80..but im still worried... i will visit my OB this week to have a blood and urine test for me to have a peace of mind. I need to travel back to my home country before my 35th week cut-off of airlines.

I just got diagnosed with gestational hypertension so i will watch this thread as well, they also found a trace of protein and I was referred to an internal medicine doctor. Since I am only 21 weeks if it gets worse i will need to be put on bp medicine, so far i have just been told to drink a lot of water, rest and cut out salt. Also, if you are monitoring your bp you need to do it 3 times a day, so morning, afternoon and night as it tends to fluctuate throughout the day. Goodluck Pixie2011 i hope things go well for you.

With my first, my bp was up from about 25 weeks and I had slight levels of protein in my urine. In my 36th week my bp went up further and the protein levels went through the roof, so it was pre-eclampsia and I was induced at 37 weeks. With my second my bp was very low - for me - throughout my whole pregnancy until my 35th week when it shot up all of a sudden. No protein in my urine until the day before I had a C-section, so all I had to do was monitor bp and protein daily, but at the last minute (with the 24-hour urine sample test) the protein returned and my ob decided to deliver. I don't think there's anything you can do except rest, drink as much water as you can and try not to stress. Easier said than done! Good luck :). PS If your ob asks you to monitor protein at home I still have most of a box of test sticks you're welcome to.
