Specifically hemangiomas that are causing trouble, ie, growth, ulceration, etc.
I would like to know what treatment you are giving and from where.
Please email me on shafna at gmail dot com if you think you can give me some advice.

And other ladies who have no idea of what I am talkin abt, kindly dont hijack this thread.

Hi Brummi, My baby girl also was born with an hemangioma in her forehead and all doctors here in Dubai (about 7 different ones with different specialty) told me that by itself will disappear; not pain or discomfort was present, either way I didn't like it and the more I read about betablockers the more I realized that was a good option (in internet you find lots of studies and their perfect results) the sooner you give it, the better result you have. I almost went to the US with a dr that has a lot of expirience with propanolol and hemangiomas when finally I found Dr. Nathan which has his own clinic http://www.modernfamilyclinic.com; with one month and a half i started the treatment, my baby is 4 months now and I am very happy with the result, the hemangioma not only stop growing but it got flat and pinkish. Any questions feel free to contact me [email protected] I understand perfectly the feeling of wanting to do something even though no pain is present without harming in any way your baby.

Thanks for the info. Initially i was determined to find a treatment to remove the growth but then you have to weigh up the options of either letting it disapear on its own or leaving a scar for life on her face. Luckily it does not bother her and she is not in any discomfort.

Brummie, My explanation must have been confusing. I had a chat with the paed in Dubai just before we left Dubai and he said that in France the doctors might suggest cortizon treatment. It was in France that our problems arose and it was there that we saw the dermatologist. For more details just do a google search for betablockers for treatment of hemangioma and you will find some medical articles. If my DD's mark had been on the face I admit I would have looked for treatment for aesthetic reasons.

Hi Violette, Its good to hear that the treatment is working for your LO , i am going to enquire with the specialist in the UK if this will also work for my DD as i hate the fact that its on her face , but i suppose because nothing is rubbing against it etc thats why they have advised to just leave it but i am defo gonna ask. My friend also said that she knows of another baby that has a hemangioma on her face and drs in the uk are treating with betablockers , maybe i should contact a dermatologist instead. Can you please let me know the dermatologist you consulted with in Dubai as i would love to get another opinion on this. Shaf , sorry i dont know what GOSH is? Great Ormond Street Hospital

See Brummie, in our cases the worrying part is not the mark itself, but the pain it caused. The tissue affected is sensitive and if it is located in areas prone to friction it can ulcerate. We only inquired actively into treatment after my DD's mark ulcerated. It advanced very quickly and within days she was in agonizing pain. Her treatment has been considered successful because the mark stopped growing and is not painful anymore. 3 months into the treatment the color is lighter but the mark is still visible.

My DD has a facial hemangioma , it started to appear a couple of weeks after birth and now she is almost 4 months and it has grown quite rapidly. My Dr here advised to just let it run its course as in most cases they have gone in the first 2 years. i also contacted a specialist at the Childrens Hospital UK who requested pics of the growth and she replied saying that this was very common and she expected the hemangioma to grow until approx 8 months and then it will start to reduce slowly. We are not treating it with any medication , fingers crossed it will go away on its own. The surgeon mentioned they do not remove on small babies as the hemangioma is made up of so many blood vessels that the blood loss could be quite severe. I have now started to get the questions now aswell much to my annoyance of whats wrong with her????? random people in the mall popping their head in the pram and making a comment :( Did u go to GOSH?

Hi, I am quite happy to share my experience with you. My DD was born in Dubai and very soon after her birth we moved to France. I noticed the birthmark immediately after birth and the paediatricians - both the one in Dubai and the one here in France - explained me that it will initially get bigger and will swell and that a treatment is available but it will be most effective at 1 year. DD's is located on the neck and it grew and swell significantly. At 3 months it started ulcerating because of the friction with the clothes and it also bled. We treated with some creams prescribed by a dermatologist, but after 2 weeks we had to go to ER and my DD was taking the maximum dose of Doliprane (paracetamol) every six hours due to pain. The pediatrician in Dubai mentioned a treatment with cortizones, however here we visited a child dermatologist and she recommended us a fairly new treatment with betablockers. Our GP reckons it is a borlderline treatment. The dermatologist has plenty cases younger than my DD. They did plenty tests on DD, because of the potential risk (blood pressure, EKG, heart scan, sugar level) and once she was cleared we could start the treatment. The doctor treated the ulcerated part with laser to rebuild the skin. This was pain free and took about 30 seconds. 2 weeks after we started using the medicine, the crusts started falling and she was not in pain anymore. Within another week or two her hemangioma was perfectly clean. I noticed you asked for an email, but I wanted to leave this on EW, too in case some other mothers are in the same situation. Good luck, violette
