hiya ladies,
Am thinking of getting an humidifier for DS's room as he is always snuffly, especially at night, which I'm sure often wakes him up...Any recommendations? I've seen the ones they always have in Boots, are these good for babies? I did a few searches and a few people mentioned the Goodsphere...where could I find one of these?
TIA!

thanks ladies...I rang ACE and they said they don't have any in stock...will look at Sharaf or Spinneys....your bargain one Greenish is alot cheaper than the ones they mention, is this the type you normally see near the counter in chemists like Boots? Yes, just like those...but it would be 2 yrs now since I bought mine.

dramaqn is right...the Goodsphere is not a humidifier, but the amt of water it goes through when the AC is on suggests it does put some moisture back in the air. :) I also have a humidifier and while it does the job, I can't leave it on overnight or the walls are literally wet in the morning. A humidifier that does not have an auto cut-off will lead to mould problems and can actually cause health problems associated with breathing in too much moisture. The ones with a cut-off are expensive...but worth it for regular, long-term use. The bargain Goodsphere does a great job for the money...I *think* I paid about 300dhs with a free bottle of essence thrown in. The essences are around 90-100dhs each, but they last months.

Goodsphere is not humidifier, it's more of the freshner type. May be you should check Sharp purifier with humidifier option. BIL has one and the air in the room does feel softer/cleaner. There are 3 types as per size of the room. For approx.26 sq.m. room, it cost 1,500dhs. They are available in Sharaf DG and Plugs Ins. Actually only in Plug Ins, they have the smaller one for 21 sq.m. which cost 999dhs. P.S. when we are or our babies get stuffy noses, we sometimes burn eucalyptus oil in the room and for relaxation, lavender oil :D edited by dramaqn on 17/10/2011

thanks kiwis...will have a shop around. Not sure if it is dust or dryness but he does seem to be permanently snuffly poor wee thing! He did get a bit of a cold in Sydney so perhaps it is still lingering from that too. I don't really have much dairy except for yogurt in the morning (as I am mildly dairy intolerant) - hate milk unless in coffee which I hardly ever have these days whilst bf-ing...

oh and you're gonna hate this ,but he did get less snuffly when I went on a dairy-fee diet for his reflux. Luckily for me it didn't really help his reflux because seriously, giving up dairy is horrific, worst month of my life ;)!

Yeah DS was only ever snuffly too, but I think it was the dust more than the dryness of the air so being more vigilant with washing his sheets and using really hot water, cleaning out the AC filters more often and using the purifier all seem to have helped a lot. It was QAR 1200 (ish) and I think they varied from 1000 to 1500 depending on the size of the room they need to cover, so an investment for sure but I was feeling really guilty about how bad it must be for DS to be growing up in this dusty climate where so many kids seem to end up with respiratory problems so convinced a very reluctant DH that we had to fork out for it.

thanks kiwi...I wonder if Carrefour have it here...hate going to Carrefour so might ring up and ask :) When you say really pricey, roughly how much? DS is more snotty/snuffly than coughy...hoping a humidifier will help him.

I bought a Sharp Plasmacluster Purifier/Humidifier from Carrefour (in Doha). It was really pricey but after reading reviews etc I decided it was the best option, Hepa filter etc. It tells you the humidity of the room and I only really use the humidifier component if it is really dry or DS has a cold but I use the purifier continuously to filter the dust out of the air and its made quite a difference. You don't want to make the air too damp and end up with a mold/mildew problem, I know zip about the Goodsphere, but am not sure how I feel about putting essential oils/fragrances into the room, not always good when people have reactive type skin/allergies etc. I know quite a few people who have bought the Sharp and had persistent coughs vanish almost overnight.

I bought our Goodsphere from ACE. I'd suggest checking Spinneys and ACE as one or the other often has a special on where you get a fragrance with it for free. I think the Goodsphere made a massive difference for our little ones. It certainly made the villa air feel 'cleaner'...and the MUCK in the bottom of the water bowl every day - YUCK! I used the lavender & tea tree essence for the baby's room. :)
