I also use cotton wool and water to change DD even at 15 months.I also used a cream called natural baby bottom cream from baby scents. They will deliver to Dubai if you ask them.My DD also had a really hard timewith nappy rash at 4months and this cleared it in a few days. My DD also had chronic nappy rash and one thing that's not mentioned here is wipes. I only ever used wipes when we went out as if there's any sensitivity they're not great for the skin. Kind of like ladies using make up wipes which are deemed to be almost as bad as sandpaper! But I digress.... I went to Ikea and bought a couple of packs of the towelling that has the coloured cord on each corner (for hanging up I guess). At each nappy change I would wet one of those with warm water and "bathe" the area rather than soak it. With a dry one I would pat the area dry. So 2 cloths at each change. Once the nappy was back on I'd rinse them thoroughly and do a hot wash each night. Just a thougt At each change I used Palmers Bum Butter as a barrier cream because it was the nicest smelling one. When she had a breakout I used Dak something. Daktarin or one of those. Good luck, I know how soul destroying it can be to see your LO in pain.

I just remembered that my DD had a horrible diaper rash when she was 10 months old. It wouldn't go away and I was very concerned. Finally, a more experienced mother took a look at it and told me it was some sort of fungal infection. We got some special cream for it and it went away quickly. Maybe your DD's issue is not a diaper rash.

I am sorry to hear about your LO. My child has a skin condiition so we had to have ongoing routine appointments with a Dermatologist. She recommended Canestan and I can honestly say it worked very well. I hope it all clears up soon, sending cyber hugs (()) SD xx

So sorry..If the rash is white, patchy and bleeding, its probably fungal. Try DEXTARIN, available in all pharmacies.

My oldest daughter used to be like this, no matter what I did, she was so sore. Years later, I found out that in babies, tonsilitis can sometimes cause this. If you go back to the doctor, get them to check her throat to rule this out. I ended up using the towelling nappies, bathing her almost everytime when I changed her, just a quick dip in a bath of water and just took the nappy off whenever I could and laid her on the floor on a blanket/towel. I found it heartbreaking to here her cry, because it was the sort of cry that you know that they are hurting. Good luck and I hope you find a solution .

Both mine had bad nappy rash at times - one beacuse of her allergies (before it was diagnosed) and one as a result of antibiotics for frequent ear infections. It really is so painful to look at. Our paed in Australia prescribed a mix of cannestan (to clear any yeast & fungal infections) & an antibiotic cream (sorry can't recall which one now) as well as some cortisone cream. I'd mix it up and apply at each change time. On top of that I used to put a think layer of barrier cream like silic 15 to prevent urine penetrating which is what really burns the skin. I hope something works for you quickly.

i read somewhere that a change of nappy can help ie if you use disposable change to cloth and vice versa - a big expense for you to gamble on something that may not make any difference though... :s

Thank you all ladies. I have taken Janesul up on her very kind offer of Metanium cream. Oh please let it work. meantime i have given her some calpol. DD is teething just now (teeth numbers 4 & 5) but its not "normal diahorrea" its at least every hour and green and water like consistency. Sorry if this is too much info but the rash extends from where her bottom meets her back right round to over her "little girls bits" (not on her bottom cheeks though). its horrible, raw and bleeding in small patches. She has had it (rash and diahorrea) for 5 days now and it has got steadily worse. I use pampers in the greem packet, size 5. I think it has a moon on the packet. But we have been using these for months

Hi GEA1984. I really feel for you, you poor thing :( I cannot offer anything more than what has already been said, except to mention what I did when DS was a bub. He only ever had 2 really bad bouts of nappy rash and I used a cream from SA that you don't get here. I don't think it's any better than some of the other things mentioned here, although I do like the sounds of the creams that dry the rash out (Metanium?). To prevent DS getting nappy rash I used a barrier cream. You may be doing so, I don't know. Every single time I changed DS' nappy, whether it was just wet or dirty, I would slather the cream on, all over everything, front and back! It was amazing and I'm sure this is what prevented him from getting more nappy rash. DS also ate (eats) A LOT, and what goes in must come out so he poo'd (poos) A LOT! You get barrier creams here but not all are good. I found the really thick pasty ones worked best (got mine in SA). And I personally would definitely give Calpol and Brufen - every 2 hours! This will definitely help with the pain (can't believe your Dr said it won't)! You need to wait 4 hours between doses of Calpol or Brufen, so my Dr always tells me to alternate - 2 hours Calpol, 2 hours Brufen. Rinse, lather, repeat! Good luck hon.

Hi, I feel for you and little one :-( Have you tried Bepanthene? all pharmacies have it and it's available as lotion, cream and ointment. It has a healing action as well as barrier - I've found it works like magic overnight as long as you're generous with it! good luck x I second Bepanthene. My DS also had the diarrhea virus that doing its rounds in Dubai and had a hideous nappy rash because of it, even though I changed as soon as there was bowel movement. Bepanthene fixed it quickly. Virus was in his system for 7 days though. :(

Are you sure it's not thrush! In the UK I was prescribed Canestan HC cream when my babies had the type of rash you describe. It maybe worth checking back with your doctor and treating yourself for thrush too.

Try using olive oil rather than water to clean - it causes less drag and therefore less friction on the skin as well as creating a barrier and containing vitmain E for healing. If you can find any here Metatonium is a fantastic cream I have been used to using in hospitals for nappy rash (along with the cleaning with olive oil) Metatonium forms a very thick barrier which is quite difficult to remove, it is a thick yellow paste. The point is not to try and remove it - just clean over it with olive oil and then reapply. I have seen it cure the worst cases of nappy rash in a day or two. If you can't find it then use the thickest cream that stays on that you can find along with the olive oil and as you have been doing as much fresh air as possible. ETA Snap janasul - it really is a fantastic cream - pity if it is not available here. ok, step back. If you can't treat the symptoms, look at the cause and treat that. What do you think is causing it? Are you breastfeeding? I've known 2 different breastfeeding mums whose children had horrendous nappy rash and it turned out it was because one was eating an inordinate amount of oranges and the other of tomatoes - both very acidic, so when it went through bubs, it didn't help! Once they changed their diets, the nappy rash cleared up considerably. Is you baby teething? Has it got a different ailment like thrush that could be aggravating the rash? All things to think about. In the mean time, try to keep bub's bottom clean and dry and out in the open air. Sudocrem burns on broken skin, by the way... used it on some eczema I had and had to scrub it off within seconds with watering eyes it was so painful. Your Dr might be testing for Amoebic Dysentery too - apparently it is rife here (DD was diagnosed with it a year or so ago) but thankfully very easily treated.

Back home (France) we used something called EOSINE AQUEUSE and it works miracles on nappy rash, It immediately dries it out and in most cases I have experienced, the pain and rash subsides within a couple of days. I dont know if you can find it here but do a search with EOSIN and nappy rash and you should find some info. I can look here if I have any left if you are willing to try. Let me know. best of luck.

Metanium cream. You can't buy it here but I have some that you can have. It dries the area and forms a barrier. I've been using it since I was home in the UK and my boy got blisters on his bottom from a nasty tummy bug. It's like a miracle cure compared to the 'wet' creams. You poor things! Where do you live? I'll be around the Safa area in a little while and could drop it off or your husband could come and pick it up. Calpol will help with the pain of her sore bottom so I would continue to give it.

I have tried Sudocreme, "Wunderschutzcreme", Drapolene cream, Panaderm, Quadriderm and have been cleaning her bottom with just cotton wool and water. She cant even stand to have me use water on it. She has had diahorrea for the past 5 days but the dr said it was just a bug going around. i took 2 dirty nappies up to him and he has sent them away to get tested for Rotavirus (which she is immunised against) and another thing that i didnt cantch the name properly he said "O.D" or "D.O". I am at my wits end she is asbolutely shattered and so am i. He (Pead) also said not to bother with calpol or the like as it wont help. Have you tried Pimufacort OINTMENT? DD#2 had this for months and yes, it does run its course but this ointment in conjunction with a homeopathic ointment called 'Wizard Ointment' (was in NZ) was the only two items together that seemed to work. You need to make sure it is ointment though, not cream as the urine seems to go straight through the cream. The ointment provides a barrier which gives the skin a chance to heal. Lots of air time helps whenever possible but don't get hung up about it. Where do you live? I have some wizard ointment in VH that you are welcome to. It's 1/2 a container but I can get more at Xmas. ETA: If you can't get the Pimufacort ointment, get the cream but use it in conjunction with an ointment - even something like Vaseline would work. <em>edited by Kakariki on 05/12/2011</em>

Sorry, for you and bub. Make sure she is not having anything acidic, like oranges etc, then try microstat - if you have tried, there is a purple liquid, you put on, it has always worked for us - it is in a little bottle like vanilla essence and is called Violet someting - sorry I am not at home, so can't check name. Also try cloth nappies if you can stand it.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things, lots of no-nappy time etc. I would therefore seek a different doctor's opinion, one cream is NOT the same as another... a doctor could give you a prescription for something other than just E45 or sudacrem, maybe some pain relief so she can get some sleep... poor little thing, nappy rash is such a nasty thing to put up with!
