I'm only 8 weeks preg with my 1st child. It's not clear what type of doctor I should see and when / where. Should I start making plans to see an OB-GYN and how often should I see them? Please could you recommend a nice modern clinic / good doctor where I can have a reliable scan etc? A friend mentioned there's a place at Dubai Mall which is good. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was wondering if you could shed some light on your experience with Dr. Braithwaite? Would she say she's pro-natural delivery, is she open to your birth plan etc. Any info would be helpful Thanks! Congratulations!!!! Welcome to the club :D I felt just as lost as you when I first found out. I think it would be a good idea to start with checkingif your insurance covers maternity. If it does, there may be exclusions when it comes to picking a Dr or hospital. I know that recently there have been some issues with the EHL group of which the clinic in Dubai mall and city are part. Some insurers do not cover these places anymore. If you do a search on the pregnancy forum you will find lots of recommendations for Dr's. You will see your Dr once a month and there will be a scan at 12,20, 32 and I think 36 or 38 weeks but I could be wrong. I am seeing Dr Braithwaite at American Hospital and I am very happy with her. Good luck!

I'm wit DR Elsa at City and I adore her. I couldn't be happier. I have no complaints so far, from the nursing staff- hospital staff, or my dr- everyone has been wonderful since day 1. I'm almost a little sad about going home to deliver (i have to, for many family reasons), because service wise- it's been a great experience at CITY.

Congratulations :-) I had my first two in UK so was slightly daunting thinking of giving birth abroad. However I made an appointment at city hospital with dr Britt claussen who is fantastic. Although not here for my birth I'm now under dr Anna Phillips . I've felt like I'm in safe hands all staff are brilliant. It's worth taking a tour on Friday at 11am meeting in main entrance. I've also heard fantastic reviews of al zahra hospital which is run by British midwifes they have the birthing stools etc unlike city may be worth a look too. X

First - congratulations! It's so exciting and a little bit daunting, having to deal with all this stuff. I'm seeing Dr Ibrahim at City. Heard all sorts about him, but was happy to find that I felt really comfortable with him and that he was going to listen to me and do what I want. Go and check out City on one of their open days (think they are on Friday's) and see if you can meet with a couple of the Obs there. Most important thing is to go with who YOU feel comfortable with - not how everyone else feels. At the end of it - you're the one who's going to be having this thing and it will be coming out of you, so you need to feel ok and trust the Ob who'll be looking up your whojimmywatsit. Best of luck to you! Hi Philly Can anyone turn up to the open day at city (am not pregnant yet) but wouldn't mind visiting and have an idea and feel what the city hospital is like .. Thanks.

I first went to Dr. Grace at the Dubai Mall clinic. The clinic is very nice, modern and efficient. I just didn't feel a connection with Dr. Grace. Upon recommendation from a friend, I then went to Dr. Sant at Primavera. She delivers at City Hospital. The clinic is not as posh, I've had to wait quite long each time - but still I much prefer the atmosphere there. Just had the NF scan last week, done by Dr. Julia; an extremely positive experience. I have BUPA insurance, but Primavera doesn't arrange direct billing, so we have to pay first and then get reimbursement. Also, Primavera is quite expensive. Still, I am happy with my choice

I've asked a friend who's given birth in both City and American. She said American seemed quite disorganised and the room was so big, she felt 'exposed' giving birth. When 'checking out', it took 5 hours as nobody was around to help them settle the bill etc. Whereas City seemed better run and the room was smaller, more hotel-like and she felt more comfortable. I think both hospitals should introduce you to their facilities if you ask them, but the general service seems to be better at City

I'm newly pregnant with my second child and we've just had an email through from our insurance provider saying that Mediclinic (i.e. City Hospital) is now doing direct billing again - the dispute has been resolved. Our insurance provider suggested we re-book elsewhere so we had gone to American as a result of the initial dispute but are now wondering whether to switch back to City. I would really appreciate feedback as to which one people prefer. We're booked to see Dr Branch (just checked, DH made appointment after talking to Insurance provider) at AH and Dr Philip at City - I need to cancel one of them, but am feeling very clueless! edited by Slurp81 on 03/02/2013

I also have nextcare and via DH was informed that there will be no more direct billing with city hospital. Give nextcare a call and check before making an appointment. Hope you find a nice dr soon.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! My insurance is with Nextcare and covers all hospitals but I think I'm going to go with City hospital as it seems to have the best reviews. Is anyone seeing any of the Docs there? List is here: http://www.mediclinic.ae/CityHospital/findaphysician.aspx?dname=&hid=10&dpid=25
