Night Terror?

DS is 14 weeks and during the last 2 weeks has woken up from his day time naps screaming (not crying, but high pitched scream) like he's in pain or has had a nightmare or something. This has happened 3 times now, and each time I have got him up and takes me 20 odd minutes to settle him back down again. I know with a night terror you are meant to leave them and not pick them up. Can they have these during their day time naps? Is he too young for these? He is teething at the moment and has just started rolling, not sure if this has anything to do with it?

One of my friend's sons has/had night terrors from about 9 months on, and honestly, if she didn't hold him, he would do himself some damage. As it was, during these terrors he would thrash about, scream, shout out and bite and if he was properly living his nightmare. A horrible experience and very, very upsetting for his mum. However, when he woke, he remembered nothing of it. Apparently, for night terrors, one way to help avoid them is to gentle half wake the child about 15 minutes before they usually start - it's invariably at about the same time at night because it's due to their sleep pattern, so half-waking them gently just nudges them out of the deep dream sleep. You could try waking your child earlier and see if that helps, but I think during the day, it's probably not a night terror. I know my DD screams, cries and shouts if you have the misfortune to wake her from a day-time nap! edited by Hello.Again.Kitty on 21/04/2011

My DD 19weeks has been doing this for weeks also. Again not sure what its about. She is hysterical and upset and it takes me SO long to resettle her if she does at all. Sometimes she is so worked up i cant settle her. Anyone else have some insight?

my daughter is about 17 weeks and was doing this, actually she sorta stopped even taking day time naps but was always more clingy, and crying (not screaming) in her sleep i haven't been to sure if was because she is teething or just having nightmares and or separation anxiety, but i started doing itsy bitsy yoga with her and bought her one of those amber necklaces just because i f its the teething pain that was doing this to her i don't want her to lose any more sleep. so far she has been napping, drooling less, no more crying in her sleep, but she is still waking up for one extra feeding than normal, and still clingy.
