It is becoming increasingly IMPOSSIBLE to change DD's nappy! Its doing my head in!!!

I thought she was squirmy the last few months on the change table, but this last month or so (13 months old) and especially the last few days its just gotten worse. She just will not lie down on the change table! She tries to turn and sit up. I know this sounds stupid since I'm an adult and she's a BABY but I don't have the strength to hold her in position so I can change the damn nappy. I'm scared I'll hurt her if I apply proper force. Even if I try the arm over her chest she still somehow manages to turn over.
I've tried handing her toys, books, EVERYTHING!!! NOTHING works anymore!!!

I know this is more than likely a phase, but please tell me I'm not the only mum battling with her child on a change table and that this will pass soon!

Oh, I think the time has come for you to master the nappy change on the go... literally :D don't remember when I started changing DS (he is 3.5 y.o.) standing up or on the run (almost) but I do remember that we did have this period :) as other posters said, try pull up nappies (Pampers or I think there is Huggies as well) and change her while she is standing facing you, bend her on your hand for wiping and may be preoccupy her with a toy or lamp or something on the wall (when we are in the shopping mall I would keep DS standing on the change table while he was looking at Pampers ads stuck on the wall or some wall design) Forgot to add, when at home, I would sit and keep him standing between my legs and do the nappy change. edited by dramaqn on 24/11/2011 edited by dramaqn on 24/11/2011

Mine were both like that too and pull ups saved us. They are good for potty training but also for when kids only want to be standing up. They come in smaller sizes too so younger children can use them and you just pull them on like underwear and kids dont have to lie down to change nappy. Brilliant!

I wish I was one of those lucky ones... she has done it on and off since as far back as I can remember, but I could always just give her a different toy etc every time and it did the trick. But now there is not one single thing I can give her to hold that will work. I am glad everyone else's babes do the same thing ;) Tell me about these pull-ups, please? Dumb assumption, but I always thought pull-ups were for older toddlers when toilet training commenced. Never knew they could be used on DD now...

this is only happening to you now, at 13 months, you are one of the lucky ones! :) :) This happened to us from 4 months onwards at which point we had to stop using the change table, I would come down in the morning to find my husband practically in tears with the frustration of it. I could pin him on the floor with my feet on his chest for a while, but we switched to pull-ups at 6 months and never looked back.

You are definitely not the only one, my DS was a little monkey from 10 months old and he was so strong I didn't stand a chance, I can't tell you how many times I got covered in the contents of the nappy! My mum gave us the solution, one of those light show machines that you get for bedtime. It's a stand alone one so can be used anywhere, the only downside is its not so effective in a really light room but as soon as we got it it worked a treat and I was more than happy to momentarily draw the curtains a little!!!

LOL!! I feel your frustration luv and DS is only 6 months old! All he wants to do is roll over now and grab things (including the nappy) and I'm already switching to pull ups which are easier - can you try those and stand her up? My sis always amazed me - her little girl was always sooo squirmy but she would somehow manage to change her nappy with her on her lap!
