Omoten, please note that the company may find out very soon that you are pregnant and may not want to go through with the job offer. Before you get your residence visa you have to go for a medical and I guess they will be informed of your pregnancy. Be prepared for the possibility that you may be sent home. I will rather be upfront with the company as it costs them a lot of money to get you here and process your visa and work permit. It is also a bit selfish in my mind to expect them to spend so much money on you, just to find out you are going on maternity leave soon after you joined the company. At least if you inform them, they have the choice to tell you they still want you for the job and are willing to pay for it. It may happen that they are not too happy and send you back and then you are pregnant without a job back home. Think carefully before you come without informing them.

Omoten, don't come if you are pregnant and unmarried and your company doesn't even know. You are setting yourself up for trouble. Why don't you have your baby and then think about coming here afterwards?

Have you ever been in Dubai, do you know how the summer looks like? Do you have maternity insurance which will work in Dubai, hospitals here are very expensive. If i were on your place i wouldn't bother. [b'>will I have a problem registering the baby when it's born as the father may not be around[/b'> I am not too sure as my husband did all the paperwork for baby, and everywhere they ask for his signature. But did you really think how the day your child will born will looks like when your husband would be away? Are you planing to bring the family to help you You don't know also how your pregnancy will looks like, some women get it very easy, some not ( nausea, swollen legs etc)., you don;t know the delivery. I don't know how this job is important for you? You will not have any rights here, unless it is written in your job contact, but only the arabic version of the is legal here, all what is in English, or if it is job offer, when comes for legal point are useless. Think about this points.:) Congratulations on your pregnacy :) edited by evelyn2000 on 13/04/2013

Hi all, I have just been offered a job in Dubai which I have accepted and the company is processing my visa I just realised I am 15weeks pregnant and single. My boyfriend is British and is wanting us to get married before I leave for dubai The company does not no I am pregnant and I have not told them because they did not ask what should I do pls help Omoten, please think carefully about this and understand the labour laws and pregnancy. It is not like the UK - as you are just starting you will have a trial period which they can let you go during with no reason so if they are not happy with the idea if your maternity leave then you will be without a job. I would suggest telling them so at least you don't relocate if they are not accepting of your situation.

Shjbelle.... Doesn't matter what your religion is, it's illegal to be pregnant out of wedlock here. So even if your married by the time you deliver, if the dates don't add up, she could find it difficult to register the birth. Which means no birth certificate, therefore no passport to travel with your baby. oh. I didn't know that. I thought it would only affect muslims. Thanks for the info.

When I had my baby it was in a Government Hospital and they didn't care about dates of marriage it was when we went to register the birth that we had problems. We needed to go to court with 2 Muslim witnesses to say that they had witnessed us get married even though we had an attested marriage cert and were married here. They also had to testify that DH was the father of the baby. If we had married after the 5 month 29 day cut off point we would've had to do DNA testing and more court appearances.

the thing in dubai is you can never be sure, it normally depends on what the staff are feeling that day wether they wana make a big deal out of it or not. so sometimes you are lucky to get away with it, sometime ur the unfortunate one who has to go thru processing. what i heard is now you have to be atleast 6moths married when the baby comes plus you have to be sure your marriage certificate is stamped in MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MINISTRY OF JUSTICE. and your embassy otherwise the marriage certificate is not valid. again you may be lucky but you dont wana take the risk. though its too late for you to fly i guess... all the best

Any non government hospital wont have a problem. It's registering for the birth certificate that is a problem as mentioned below. I think it all depends on your luck on who is there when you go to register for the birth certificate. Unfortunately It also seems to depend on your nationality. I have 2 friends from Oz and the UK that talked there way out of it, before they were sent to court, however I know two Philippians and an Indian lady that all ended up in court for quite a while. I'd suggest talking to your embassy. Best of luck, and a huge congratulations on your new family :) edited by flydiver11 on 22/04/2012

Hi, we had this problem last year, everyone advised us to go home, the problem will be registering you LO's birth at Al Baraha Hospital, the process could be long, humiliating as they could ask for DNA tests and very costly. Everyone including our OBGYN and embassy told us to go home. Better to be safe than sorry.

I get married in Dubai when I was 7 months and a half pregnant and had no isues at all when I gave birth . I really do think it depends on who gets the paper work when you register the birth. I had a problem, and so did a poster below. My friend got married 3 weeks before having her baby and she also had no problems.

As long as you were married befor being 5 months and 29 days pregnant it doesn't matter even with a government hospital. All the hospital needs is the paperwork to show you are married dates don't matter. How come 5 months and 29 days? Haven't heard that before.. No idea why it's 5 months and 29 days but that's what I was told at the Sharia court in Abu Dhabi when I had my son 8 years ago and had to petition to register his birth as I was pregnant before getting married. They told me because I was within this time limit it was ok and signed off on the registration. The hospital didn't care about the dates it was at birth registration that they counted the days and said I had to go to the Sharia court to get permission to register. Perhaps it has to do with the limit of viability in premature infants? If a couple get married and then have a premature baby at 6 months, they wouldn't want to punish them?

Speaking from personal experience, if your marriage date is less than 6 months from the baby birth date, then you will have problems getting a birth certificate for your baby here in Dubai. I am going through this ATM. Our marriage date was 4.5months before the birth date of our daughter and now we are having to go to court to petition for a birth certificate to be issued. We have been to 2 hearings and now awaiting a third... Had I known I would have gone an had the baby back home in oz. What a headache. I also read of a couple in Abu dhabi who had the same problem with being 3mths pregnant at the time of their marriage. So my advice.... Go home and have your baby.

by the way, how much will it cost if i will deliver my baby in City Hospital? When I inquired about it in Feb of last year, the info I was sent said that if I use a City Hospital OB/GYN, a normal delivery was AED11,025 or a C-section was AED22,800. These prices did not include an epidural, this was an additional AED2250. As I said tho, this was a quotation given over a year ago so their prices may have changes since. If you email them on: [email protected] they should be able to provide you with an up-to-date quote. What about your health insurance tho? Are you covered for maternity and is City included in you insurance providers network? if so, the costs you would have to pay would be significantly reduced, however I'm guessing maybe City's not covered in your ins, hence you deciding on Iranian? HTH

All the hospital needs is the paperwork to show you are married dates don't matter. How come 5 months and 29 days? Haven't heard that before. Angel raiver, wouldn't you be better getting in touch with your Embassy and getting some concrete information from them? Or is your OB/GYN at Iranian aware of your situation? Could you ask her / him for advice?? A friend of mine was here with her partner and found out she was pregnant. She went to her Embassy and they were extremely helpful with advising her what her options were and potential consequences. She and her partner went home, got married, came back and then delivered at City and all was fine. City is private tho so whether or not it would be different to Iranian / other government hospitals, I have no idea! You will probably get lots of different opinions on here based on other's experiences and hear-say, but its unlikely that anyone else will have been in exactly the same circumstances as you. I think your safest bet is to try and get reliable information from an official source to make sure you dont accidentally find yourself in any trouble.

Don't fret. I was 7 months pregnant when I got married here in Dubai and no trouble at all. Had the baby at City and got all the docs sorted and no one asked me anything.

If you can at all, I would go home to have the baby and only return once all the paperwork has been sorted out. It is best if he is not born in Dubai while you are unmarried. Good luck.
