Hi there, it's my first pregnancy, I'm 6 weeks now and preganant with twins :o

I was just wondering if it's normal to be constantly hungry all the time!!! I will have a plate of food and still feel like I've not eaten! I'm a bit worried, because at this rate I'm going to balloon out as big as a whale. We were trying to have a baby, but only one baby, so we're still in a bit of shock with the idea of having TWO!

So does anyone have any advice please on preparing for twins and gong through the pregnancy with two little extra mounths to feed in my tummy?

Thanks a mill :)x

Thank you, not a legend, just glad I've helped somehow. As you too, no family at all to help, no home help either through choice..... So on the go full time with them all and learn as you go along, day by day....., wash, cook, clean and iron when they slept .....but that's just the way we chose to do things. Multi tasking is key, I think you get it off pat until its just second nature. Anything else, I'm about to answer as honest as I can. Take care. edited by Solo on 22/04/2012

Hi Solo O my gosh, you are a legend to have gone through that at such a young age, ha! You're so right, no point in stressing about things that's not happened yet, and just take one day at a time :) It's quite a roller coaster ride, scary and exciting at the same time. You' ve been a brilliant help, thanks you. Great to have this site as I suppose a lot of us are in the same boat with not having family here for the support you need. Thanks so much :)

Hi, our identical twins were in two seperate sacs. Identical boys first delivery, and fraternal boy and girl the second delivery. I fed them for the first few weeks only, then expressed and bottle fed them. Yes, only usually set off the other and took forever to feed, not helped by the fact that we were told to wake them every two hours to feed to gain weight..... It would take two hours to feed them, so two hours was it from startung a feed or finishing? ........many question I had.........and when eventually allowed to let them sleep and wake for feeds on their own they had got so used to being woken for two hourly feeds.....they never slept and still woke up every two hours! ( of course as so into the routine). No - a c-section was never planned for either births. You can deliver naturally, as with our first two. The second set were an emergency c-section delivery so not planned either. At the time, Al Wasl was the only hospital able to take premature babies. So I registered there for both births. So still your best option cost / package wise I would still presume than any other private hospital if you aren't covered. I know mine were born a number of years ago now, but just having a health card covered all my costs when born, all special baby care unit costs, c-sections, appointments, tests, all. But no good telling you this as obviously changed and package options. But still the best option in my opinion and wouldn't say anything against the care we all had there ever. Yes- they will scream and you will be fine. I was only 21 when I had the first two and 23 with four..... And I live to tell the tale :-) tee hee! You will be fine and no point in worrying about things after delivery now throughout your pregnancy. Ok, I know I did too, but having done it.... Twice..... You will cope. Honest! I didn't find out I was expecting twins the first time round until I was 5 months pregnant, due to late scanning in Dubai years ago...... So not much time to flap about things as 7 weeks later they were here! The second two due to problems I found out at 10 weeks. Yes, they will be very young when you go back to wrk with maternity leave days so few here. But again, please don't worry about this now, the less stress for you the better. You can express for them if that is a concern while back at work, but whatever suits just go with. Best laid plans don't always go to plan, just take each day as it comes. 8-) Funny but years on I can't believe I remember so much to be able to help, though been through finding out, birth, baby stage, toddlers, schooling, teens and here to tell the tale......twice, so I hope I am of some help. edited by Solo on 19/04/2012 edited by Solo on 19/04/2012

thanks for the replies :) @ Solo - great to come accross some else that's had twins :) I don't have any craving yet, it's just the hunger thing, ha! I've just got another question if you don't mind, where your identical twins in 2 seperate sacs? Mine's in 2 seperate sacs, so we're hoping that they are fraternal twins instead of identical. I was told that 99% of the time you have to have a c-section, but by the looks (from what you said) normal is possible! Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover maternity so we have to take out a maternity package, which can get quite pricy, especially for a C-section! The thing that scares me the most is the afterwards, looking after two screaming babies at the same time, not sure that I'm ready for that! I have to go back to work after 2 montsh as well, as you may know, you don't get much time off for maternity, only 45 days, but I'm afraid that it will be too soon to leave them on their own at a nursery, plus what do I do with breast feeding ect?

No, not gaining allot of weight didn't cause me to go into premature labour. I went in as started bleeding and I was told I was already in labour. Too late to delay it, so was given a course of injections to mature the babies lungs over the following hours and after a long 42 hour labour they were born. A traumatic two days in labour and no epidurals at that time available, but I managed to get the last injections given before they arrived. So needed less care in SBCU than they could of.

Drink plenty and eat healthily as you will become more easily drained and tired as the babies grow. My first twins (identical) pregnancy I was craving lots of things but didn't gain too much weight, but my second twin (fraternal) pregnancy, was totally different I wasn't well throughout and gained much more weight and had pregnancy diabetes too. First twins born naturally at 32 weeks and second set at 37 by emergency c-section. Don't panic and take each day as it comes. Our one brought two, and third brought three and four...... Can't remember he first few years as function on auto pilot but wouldn't chane things or he world......!!!! Hi Solo Did you not gaining lot of weight have anything to do with delivering at 32 weeks? This s scaring me because am just over 27 weeks now and haven't gained immense weight. Just about 20 pounds so far. Babies growth is on track touchwood. I was asked by my doc not to over-eat in order to prevent gestational diabetes; however, even with this weight gain I ended up failing my glucose test. Am monitoring my glucose levels from past 3 weeks and they are under control because I further cut down on carbs. In the last week, it looks like I haven't gained any weight at all :( Am hoping I won't go into preterm labour because of my weight. An a small person btw and was only about 100 pounds to start with. edited by little_zuzu on 19/04/2012 edited by little_zuzu on 19/04/2012

So 'Double Congratulations'! Any questions I'll help if i can answer them.....as I'm sure there are other twin mums here willing to help too. edited by Solo on 19/04/2012

Drink lots of water and try to stay as close to the recommended weight gain as possible. Do lots of walking. Studies show twin pregnancies are more successful if you gain most of your weight in the first/second trimester so don't panic if it goes up a lot at first. It will even out later.
