Thanks for all your valuable advice ladies. When I returned to the nursery yesterday afternoon at an unscheduled time I was reassured to find that my DD and the other babies were not left alone in the sleeping room at all and during my visits today (both scheduled and unscheduled) there was also always someone with them. This was my only real concern with Hummingbird and otherwise I am delighted. Nifaoilean, I am surprised that you had such a negative experience. Apart from my little wobble/concern yesterday I find the staff to be extremely professional and so far, I'm very happy.

I would second or third the other ladies with spot inspections :) Regardless of whether or not you are overreacting you need to feel comfortable with the care of your DD for your own peace of mind. I havent done the nursery thing yet... hats off to you :) Maybe its an anxiety which after some unannounced visits and time will ease.

DebsDebs, my son is at Hummingbird, and generally he sleeps quite well in the sleep room and usually it's attended to. I would talk to Josephine - she is really great. Also, pay a couple of unplanned visits - we did this a few times when he first started there. I also just walked into the sleep room a few times on my way in to check the set up (rather than someone always going and getting DS for me). Hope this helps - happy to chat further if you like too.

Debs Debs, my DS used to be at Hummingbird, the sleep room is excellent and certainly when he was there, there was always someone sitting in the dark in the sleep room. You mean the one on the left as you go in right? There may be moments when there isnt anyone when lets say one of the children woke up and was taken back outside...but on the whole it is attended. I can't think why they would have taken the cot outside though, that I definately wouldnt be happy with. Is Josephine still running the baby area? She would be most sympathetic. Keep pushing the manager to make sure that you get the set up you want, for the fees they charge it should be the top of the top in terms of set up! good luck, its tough when you first put your LO in nursery, but at least there you can pop in during the day, i used to...assuming that you work in DIFC?

Just pop in when they are not expecting you on a few occasions, hopefully this will put your mind at rest.

Hummingbird in DIFC. I like it as it means that I can continue bfeeding and visiting DD throughout the day. I really don't want to change if I can avoid it.... Plus, I'm actually very happy with every other aspect of the nursery. Perhaps this is just me overreacting... edited by DebsDebs on 02/02/2011

DebsDebs, alarm bells would be ringing with me too. If you don't feel comfortable with the nursery can you change? Which one is this? I thought Willow was the best one I looked at for a tiny baby, it felt really 'safe'.

Yesterday was my 3 month old's first day in nursery. When I went to go and feed her at lunchtime, I noticed that some of the other babies, though considerably older than my DD, were left in the sleeping room unattended which somewhat surprised me. The nursery staff had also moved my DD's cot into the main noisy play area so that 'they could watch over her whilst she slept'. Unfortunately, she wasn't sleeping at all and after a full day awake yesterday daytime was totally wired last night. This morning I requested that her cot be placed in the 'sleeping room' which is a dark, quiet room more conducive to sleeping (in my opinion). When I went back to feed her at lunchtime today someone was there (we have pre-arranged feeding times so they know when I am coming) but, I have a feeling, she was left alone earlier in the morning. My concerns were somewhat confirmed when I was feeding DD alone (i.e. with no nursery staff in the sleeping room) as the two other babies in the sleeping room woke up. One of them cried solidly for 10 mins until I stopped feeding DD and got up to alert the nursery staff. The sleeping room is not equipped with any kind of intercom or monitoring equipment as I suppose that someone is supposed to be with the babies but I have my doubts about this and wonder how safe this set-up really is. I spoke with the nursery manager and mentioned that I thought someone should be in the sleeping room when babies were there. She agreed and said 'yes, there really SHOULD always be someone, I will speak with the baby team'. Obviously my baby sleeps alone at home but I do have an audio and sensor pad monitor. Am I overreacting? What would you do? Edited for typo edited by DebsDebs on 02/02/2011
