To the OP, I went to see Cecile a couple of years ago with DS1. Unlike some of the other people in this thread, she had DH and I keep away from DS. We were not even allowed in the room. It was awful and I just couldn't really do it in the end. It broke my heart. I like Cecile personally, but I will not be doing CIO like that with any of my others.

Yikes! What happened here?! I believe wholeheartedly in what Cecile taught us about sleep and I know that DS is a far healthier, happier baby as a result. Some of her advice about feeding, however, we didn't necessarily follow to the letter as it didn't work for us. I'm happy that DS can let us know what he needs food-wise and when. I definitely wouldn't agree that a 7-month-old should be getting most of his or her nutrition from solids, nor that BF may cause diabetes (I haven't researched this, it just doesn't make any sense to me!). You don't have to blindly follow what anyone tells you, regardless of their education and experience. Follow what fits your family and what you think is right and discard what doesn't fit and you don't agree with.

Goodness me. Cecile is like any business in that you will have people who are extremely happy with her and those who are not. I have some friends who have seen Cecile and they absolutely love her. She has done wonders for their sleep. In fixing their sleep the babies are so much happier and so are the mothers! People can have their strong opinions about Cecile but when someone just goes off attacking the woman at every chance then I think that is uncalled for. Yes, give your opinion but to just continuously attack the woman is just not right. And the fact that she IS successfully helping hundreds of mothers and babies, in my opinion, speaks volumes about her. I agree. It is obvious that opinion towards her is polarised, you love her fine. You hate well, fine too. But no need to bash the woman at every opportunity particularly when the thread doesn't even call for it. All the OP wanted was to hear from people who have used Cecile's sleep training advice and how successful/unsuccessful it was. As for me, I used Cecile over a period of 3 years for my two girls. Due to Ceci's advice I managed to exclusively BF my first for two years and exclusively pump for DD2 for 7 months and counting. I don't know what advice she's told D.Babe's friend, but with me Ceci was the biggest BF support for me. I do know she supports introducing solids by six months max, doesn't care how whether it's BLW or spoonfeedng, but she does believe that the 6 month to 18 month window is an important age to help babies acquire their feeding skills. This infamous CIO expert was the one who actually advised me against sleeptraining my DD1 at 2.5 years because she felt with all that was going on, it wasn't the right solution for us. DD1 still wakes up a lot at night and even co sleeps with us a few times a week. I know I sound like a broken record now, but what that woman did to our family was invaluable. She was probably the one who kept me from having a nervous breakdown when things were at their worst with DD2. She even insisted on visiting us every week for months until she was 100% certain that both myself and DD2 (who was premature and has a feeding aversion) was all right, even after our package with her expired. Free. She refused to charge me although she was forgoing meeting with paying clients because she was concerned about me and the baby. Now that is what is truly called a labour of love. I will only ever have good things to say about ceci

Yes but the computer alert wasn't denied, scary! I would be interested to know if what DB is saying is true. THIS can be really SCARY if this is what cecile is teaching to new mother. Why would it be an IF? I got off the phone with my friend perfectly horrified. She is a western educated well informed well intentioned mother of a 7 month old baby who typical of 7 month old babies wakes up a few times at night hungry and was told by a "recommended health care provider" that she is "breast feeding TOO much" and as breast milk is "sweet" it "MAY" cause her child to develop diabetes even though all related studies of human milk feeding show that it decreases incedence of obesity and diabetes in human babies and her baby "should get most of her nutrition from solids". I am the mother of 2 boys, a 14 month old(still b/f) and a 3 yr old ( who sometimes still b/fs) and I tandem nursed them. I am quite shocked as her advice would result in the failure of any b/f relationship ( majority feeding from solids in the day and no night nursing- no mother will have a supply - b/f is a supply and demand thing) This is a thriving 7 months old- 9 kgs in weight very happy crawling and pulling up to stand. By implying that the mother is doing something wrong ( when by all reports she is doing very well - a babies only job is to eat and grow and it depends on its mother for that )she is going against all medical recomendations and in a more impressionable mother, potentially harming a thriving baby as she feels the "mother needs her life back". If you search this board, there are only glowing reports of cecile and i have never judged or questioned mothers who use her methods to get much needed sleep if they are desperate. Her other, completly wrong and dangerous advice horrfies me and i feel people should be warned that they might get such medically wrong advice too when they go to her and then only use the information they need. edited by designbabe on 03/07/2011

What s your problem ?? Give me your baby, I will let him cry alone in the night, without having to go to meet cecile. Oh I forgot.. it is not allwed to make any critic towards cecile , right ? settle down dear... no problem, no need to be so aggresive!! it was a light hearted suggestion in view of the fact that you're so interested in the advice Cecile is apparently giving out, I have (thankfully) no need to visit someone like Cecile or to leave my DD crying at night or any other time. criticize whoever you like and please continue to post it, I for one love reading your opinions.

nutty replied : My point wasnt to dimiss your friends experience with Cecile just that there are so many people that have had good experiences with her it seems wrong to badmouth her when the comments were not heard by you first hand although im sure your friend wouldn't lie to you but everyone hears what they want and since you dont speak of your own experience then best not to repeat something on hearsay. Everybody is free in this forum to give her opinion regarding an healthcare provider, isnt it ? Why does this rule not apply to Cecile ?

she should reduce the number of night feeds- only one dream feed and no more till morning (because babies dont need food to grow!!!) At 7months why is your friend still feeding during the night? Think Cecile is right on this one. As for the rest of it,unless you heard it from Cecile, wouldn't believe everything you hear. Yes ofcourse - my friend is lying to me but ceclie must be revered!!! I never attepmted to sleep train my children so I do not think I will ever need her Gina Fordesque "advice". I feed my 14 month old when he wakes up at night because he is HUNGRY!!! I also have a 3 year old who i fed till about 18 months and he sleeps beautifully like a champ now.... edited by designbabe on 03/07/2011

Thanks for your comment....does this forum not allow a simple question ? I am sure BTW that you did your best for all your babies . Despite salome's not too eloquent manner of saying it, in terms of cecile, I now am her 100 percent supporter. Was just shocked speaking to a friend of a 7 month old baby who had visited cecile due to recommendations and got the most ridiculous advice ever. To summarize what she was told- 7 month old babies need most of their calories from solids as per the WHO and she is breasfeeding her baby TOO much???? she should reduce the number of night feeds- only one dream feed and no more till morning (because babies dont need food to grow!!!) breast milk is very sweet and she could cause her child to have diabetes later in life if she feed a 7 MONTH OLD baby too much breast milk -(OMFG- my babies are SOOOO going to get diabetes then as I fed my older son till 2.5 yrs) All the stuff in brackets are my comments- the rest are her recommendations!!! I must say Salome is absolutely correct in her evaluation of Cecile. If there was any sort of board here that we could report people to for giving medical advice absolutely opposite to current medical recommendations, I would have asked my friend to report her!!! As a breastfeeding mother- I must say I am absolutely horrified at waht I heard and luckily my friend did not listen to her and walked out but I shudder to think what a more impressionable, tired, sleep deprived mother would do with her demented advice!!! edited by designbabe on 03/07/2011 edited by designbabe on 03/07/2011 looool actually, breastfeeding protect from the diabete in later life !!

Karen Blixen, I see that you have deleted your comment...generalizing the actions of a few billion people based on the few families living in a building is quite unfair imo. I would also like to add here.. I dont agree with jumeirajaneindubai but well what she decides to do with her kids is her decision and great if it works for them... but I dont think I would follow her advise for mine. Kcinthecity, I am glad that you have made the decision to seek professional help and It is nice to see that your DD is responding so well to it :) Although I did not have to do sleep training with my DS but he has always been on a strict routine from 6 weeks where I am very careful about his sleep associations, bedtimes and wakeup time. He is only 7 months but in case things change in the future and he starts waking up in the night, I'll not think twice before taking Cecile's help and getting things back on track. @ Karen, I am European too- Hope that clarify any confusion. @Mishmash, No problem if you dont agree. Different style of parenting I guess. To be honest I dont agree to any kind of sleep training . For me, Sleep is not a battle which has to be won.

Dubaicat replied : He was only 7 or 8 months at the time . Does sleep training affect a successfull breastfeeding as the baby is left couple a hours without any feed ? Two of my babies slept through the night (12+ hours) from 10 and 12 weeks, both exclusively breastfed and both without anything in particular that I did. The other slept through the night from 17 weeks, four days after we instigated a version of 'sleep training'. If the baby goes to bed comfortable, well-fed, dry and relaxed, there is no need to feed them every couple of hours. From my understanding, milk is for hunger and thirst. I am 34 , and I still wake up several time a night to drink water, specially with the summer heat, and AC.

That's another benefit of it all, nutty - good point. If DS wakes in the night crying now, I know there's a problem that needs solving. Maybe a nappy change, maybe some Calpol, maybe a bottle if he didn't eat properly before he went to bed, but something that needs seeing to. I'm far more confident now that I can meet his needs and get him to have a great sleep at the same time.

Your question is not clear. If she does cry then i know what it is for unlikethe early days when the cries all sounded thesame. Cecilehelped me to leard the difference in them. I have a big spirited happy little girl who has all her needs met and i am thankfull to cecile for showing me how. Hope this clears up any confusion.

In answer to your question (i have not read all the other replies to this thread)... I had a great experience with sleep training with Cecile. We started at 6 weeks or DD would have been returned to the hospital as all she did was cry. I though i had a faulty one lol! Anyway, we put her down at sleep cues and settledher after a few moments she wouldstart to cry so we let her cry for 5 attend for 1min and so on up to 25mins then i would refeed her, do anything to get her to sleep and then try again at the next nap. This went on for short of a week until we just popped nher in her cot and said goodnight. At night,it was a lot easier to implement a good routine so we never had to do it at night and she slept through from 10weeks 7pm to 7am with an 11pm dreamfeed dropping first the 2am feed and then the 5am feed. She is now 10months and i have been back to see Cecile about different things but for now the sleep is good. I felt trully supported throughout my whole experience and if you are not comfortable with the cry it out method then she does try to helpyou find an alternative. I have known what my child cried for for a very long time to the point she only now cry's if she has hurt herself. What a difference to the baby we brought home from the hospital.
