Hi
So I’m 36 weeks pregnant and my Dr has just told me she may be away for my delivery, I now feel I’m being messed around by the clinic I’m using and don’t like the not know what’s going happen when I go into labor.

I’ve decided I’m going to go direct to the hospital for my birth and plan to go register with a doctor next week.

For my first child I went to Medcare and everything was fine but have since heard some horror stories so I don’t know if I should go back the to my original Dr or to go direct to city.

What Dr did you use at City, want to see a Dr that works for the hospital directly not a clinic and just deliver’s there did you have any complaints with the hospital or Dr, any idea on cost of delivery?

I used Dr Britt for prenatal care, she is no nonsense, very experienced & a lovely lady... Would definitely use her again, but I delivered in the UK in the end.

Hi, I'm going with Dr Ibrahim. I had heard mixed reviews about him, some saying he was the best ever and would have every baby with him, and others saying he was rude and arrogant with no bedside manner. I got my dr to give me 2 referrals - one for Dr Ibrahim and one for Dr Britt as I was also nervous about having a male obs. I took a friend with me to meet Dr Ibrahim and immediately felt really comfortable and relaxed with him. He answered all my questions and asked me if I felt happy with things. I had a small scare a few weeks back and ended up in City for an afternoon while they checked everything over. Then I had the female on-call obs attend me and I didn't like her at all - found her really nervous and had no confidence in her ability. I think the most important thing (which has said before) is to meet a few doctors and go with the one that fits best with you and what you want. When you meet them, ask the questions like the position you are in when you give birth, how much control/say you have over the whole experience, pain control, number of people in the room etc. If you like them, their answers and feel comfortable, go with them. If you don't - just change. Just because you start with one obs doesn't mean you have to stick with them. Good luck with your decision and hope it all goes well, Philly

I delivered at City with Dr Ibrahim and can only speak highly of him and our experience. We attended him on the recommendation of friends and also my GP at Festival City DLC. Throughout our visits and the birth, we found him to be friendly, professional, thorough, knowledgeable and we felt in very competent hands throughout. One of the midwives at City was pregnant at the time and had also chosen him to deliver her baby, which I had been interested to find out as someone who would have worked alongside many of the OBs! What's more, the midwife I have been visiting for well baby checks in another clinic told me she has noticed he has a noticeably higher rate of natural deliveries (without interventions such as forceps etc). Hope this is helpful! :)

My doctor is doctor purnima. I find her fine. She answers my queries. I am hoping that my delivery with her would be a good experience.

I was seeing Dr. Ibrahim after I heard a lot of good things about him but I realized it wasn't all true. He was friendly but he was always on the phone with someone else during consultation and his phone just kept ringing and ringing. I got pretty annoyed the last visit. The previous doctors I used always gave me information about my pregnancy or test results automatically. I had to ask him specific questions and even results from the tests I took. I am currently looking for another doctor elsewhere. edited by kkrock on 18/10/2012

no there wasn't a nick in my bowel they did a colonoscopy 3 times. The fluid was either side of my womb and was infected with e-coli and when it came out it was like pus! Yeah it was horrible lol!! not something I would like to repeat but hasn't put me off wanting more children hee hee!! Dr Ib even said it could have been from something not cleaned properly in the hospital or that I had it in me already and had I been feeling unwell or had the runs previously!! err nope. 2 days before my contractions started I was constipated and then the morning they started I had the runs which is why I new it wouldn't be long, you know how they say that your body prepares etc. Oh well, nothing I can do about it, just learn and make better choices next time :)

, I had to have a drain fitted in my abdomen to get rid of fluid that had escaped there, . This doesn't sound right from the info you have given. Usually fluid will only escape if there is a small nick in the bowel (which is sometimes a complication of a c/s), not from a straight infection. Sorry it was so awful.

I had my son at City in Sept 2010 with Dr Ibrahim and I didn't have a very good experience. I suggest that if you meet with a OBGYN and you have ANY, even the slightest, bad feeling or doubt about them not to see them again. I did with Dr Ibrahim but I stuck with him and at one point even felt that he was taking the mickey out of me a bit and was more interested in chatting with my DH than me. My pregnancy was easy but when it came to the birth, despite me wanting it as natural as possible, I had every intervention going and felt pressured into having them because I was a first time mum. I didn't get the birth I wanted, I ended up with an emergency c-sec and was soooooo upset about that. Don't get me wrong I would have another c-sec in a heartbeat if it was necessary because I felt fine after 3 weeks, but it was everything that happened before and afterwards, hospital related and OBGYN related. I do feel that some OBGYNs don't consider what YOU need. For example I wanted to give birth on all fours or stood up but was told by Dr Ibrahim that he only delivers babies with the mother lying on her back! I should have looked for another OBGYN and hospital because I ended up with an ecoli infection from the hospital which stopped my bowels from working, I wasn't allowed to eat or drink for 2 days to try and kick start my bowels, I had to have a drain fitted in my abdomen to get rid of fluid that had escaped there, a needle aspiration to remove more fluid from the opposite side, I couldn't feed my baby because my milk was poor and I was upset because I was ill. And then I caught amoebic dyssentry off someone there which went undiagnosed for 8 weeks!!! That was 8 weeks of stomach cramps, the runs, ct scans, colonoscopy, enemas (not that they were needed!!!), a variety of pills and antibiotics, some of which I became resistant too, 3 visits to A&E in severe pain, hours of lying on a bed with a rehydration drip in my arm because of all the runs and all this whilst trying to cope with a little newborn. I was in hospital for 2 weeks altogether It ended up being my family GP at DLC that diagnosed and treated me, not the hospital despite me being under 3 Drs there! We are hoping to have another child and I would not go back to that hospital or see Dr Ibrahim again.

I delivered my baby at City Hospital in December 2010.Doctor Amir Nasseri from N9NE Medical Clinic (based at Dubai Healthcare City) was my OBGYN. Dr Amir is Iranian-American and studied and trained in the US. (He has been in the UAE for a long time, so knows the Dubai system very well). Honestly, I cannot sing Dr Amir's praises enough! He had (and still has!) genuine, personal care for me, my husband, and of course our baby boy. He was highly professional and made it a priority that I would have the birthing experience that I was after - natural and safe. He even made sure I got the best midwife for natural deliveries! He was happy for me to have a doula and even met with us together so that we were all on the same page before I even went into labour. Throughout my pregnancy he regularly called or SMSd me to just check up on me and see how I was doing. (My experience with other doctors was that I could never get past the busy dial tone at reception). Dr Amir's clinic is state-of-the-art and his staff are wonderful. I never felt uneasy about having my baby away from home (Australia). His post-natal treatment and follow up was also exceptional, and I am still in contact with him today with updates on our little boy. I highly recommend him to any couple planning on having a baby or already expecting. My only disappointment is that we are moving to Abu Dhabi next month so Dr Amir won't be able to deliver my next baby! :)

Dr. Britt Clausson delivered my baby a few months ago and she was just amazing! I cannot speak highly enough of her..she saved me from a potential c-section, and managed to get my big baby out naturally, with very few stitches..She is very professional, reliable and understanding. She works directly from City hospital. edited by Proudmama012 on 08/08/2012

Dr Elsa delivered my twins at City Hospital last November. She is brilliant, is she your current OB? I have no complaints about the hospital itself, the entire experience was great. Let me know if you have any more questions
