I have use pure lanolin and any cracks healed very fast.Check on Facebook La leche Leauge in Emirates.I think the only thing you can do is prepare yourself as you read a lot about breastfeeding. It is good to know that new baby is nursing almost all the time, you might not to have time even to take a shower ;). -All this things about latching, if good to check Lactation consultant when you will feel like that there is something wrong. Don't let anyone say to you that you don't have enough milk ( this is happens in rarely). I don't know if you heard that there is some women who breastfeed adopted baby :). And it will get easier and easier, finally you will find yourself feeding your 6 months old who will latch by himself in the dark room :D.And you will feel so happy that you are giving your baby best what you can . Good Luck ! all best.

As meagle says there is nothing you can do to "prepare" your nipples for nursing in advance, the best thing you can do is hire a properly qualified lactation consultant who can help you ensure your baby is correctly "latched". Nipple damage occurs when the nipple gets squashed against the baby's hard palate during a feed rather than being cushioned against the deeper soft palate. The babies gums shouldn't be squeezing the nipple, it should be the area around the nipple (the areola) that gets squeezed "milked" instead. If this is happening properly then you will not get cracked, painful nipples. Some babies just open wide and figure it out straight away, in other cases it takes time. Properly positioning the baby so that they are tipping their head back will help them take a bigger mouthful but if you are in pain (beyond a slight bit of tenderness) then don't faff around, get an expert straight away, you can expect to be given an awful lot of "bad" advice regarding breastfeeding so having someone properly trained really helps. As far as a barrier cream, mebo isn't really safe to apply just before a feed, better to use a small amount of pure lanolin before and apply mebo AFTER a feed if your nipples are injured.

Applying lanolin after nursing can help, but there is really nothing you can or need to do in advance. The discomfort is just a part of your body adjusting. Think of it this way: if you've never lifted weights or worked out at the gym, you'd expect your muscles to be sore initially. Your breasts have never fed a baby before, so it's unrealistic to expect it to be pain free in the initial days. The only other suggestion I would make is to work with a lactation consultant immediately after birth to make sure baby has a good latch and follow up as needed. You'll be in more discomfort if baby is latching correctly from the start.

This is great planning, I wish I'd thought to do so when I had my girls. They were premature so I was pumping every 3 hours for the first 2 weeks and my ni**les were red-raw. I still didn't have enough milk for the two of them and feeding them was so painful. I eventually gave up after about two weeks :(. I've heard you can do things to prepare your n****** before birth, but not sure which techniques are tried and true. I would definately use MEBO cream or something similar for every feed to provide a sheild.
