Thanks for your thoughts jc2010. It's so strange but what part of having babies is supposed to be predictable? : ) After going down so easily last night, she slept 11 hours straight without a break and had a brilliant day today. Hope she incorporates this good behaviour into her "routine"! LOL.

This sounds all so fmailiar with my 10 month old!! 9 months of the perfect sleeper to a monkey who would cry and sit up whenever he went down, progressing then to standing up in his cot every nap time and screaming. I found leaving him to cry a few minutes (I stand outside his door) and then picking him up for a cuddle, soothe him for a minute and putting him back down tended to work. I have also 2 days ago, started putting him in his sleeping bag for days naps, since birth we only every used blankets in the day, swaddle/sleeping bag at night and this really helped too! He goes down much easier now, and i'm sure its because its too hard to stand up in him sleeping bag!! Glad your little one has settled again!

She fell asleep within 2 mins of being put down tonight without a peep - from one extreme to another!!

sounds familiar :) DS would sit up and start wailing but as soon as I'd lay him down and put my hand on him he would just close his eyes - think they're just looking for extra reassurance.....it will pass!! x

Thanks again SG : ) She slept until midnight but then woke four times at night sobbing but fell asleep again without help from me. She then slept in and also had a longer nap in the morning (she recently dropped her afternoon naps). We also have started doing the chill out time technique as you suggest and this is helpful. Once again tonight when we put her down, she immediately sat up and wailed for about 2 to 3 minutes. I then placed her on her back, patted her and she fell asleep almost instantly!!?? TC : )

also when the wailing was at its worse, I often picked him up for a quick cuddle to calm him down before putting him down to pat/shush and that often helped too...but I would then have to wait until he was completely asleep before leaving otherwise it would start up again! And sometimes in the semi darkness it would be really hard to see if he was totally asleep or not!

maybe if she's processing new things you might also need to give her more quiet time before sleep time to really let her wind down? Before naps we always sit quietly with him in his little bouncer with his dummy (even at almost 1 he still loves to lounge back in it when he's tired LOL) and just read a story or watch something on telly for about 10-15 mins...he also knows when I bring out his dummy that it's almost sleep time. The other thing that these stages usually signified for DS was a change in routine. Both times he was ready to stay awake longer during the day and I ended up pushing his nap times back about half an hour, and recently I cut his morning nap down to 30-45 mins....I then found that once he was sorted during the day he started sleeping better at night again.....might be worth trying? It was almost as if he was protesting to say he wasn't ready for a sleep yet!

Thanks for your thoughts Sydneygal - I remember reading a post from you a while ago about your LO standing and you watching him on the video screen which prompted me to post this query. I found that if I go to her to pat her or reassure her, she cries even more but of course you can't not go to them when they are in so much distress! Hoping this is just a short phase : ) take care

Hey M - it could be seperation anxiety, or a sleep regression, or developmental, or she may be coming down with something?....Although if she's doing new things it could just be developmental. DS has been through about 2 of these stages, usually lasting a week or two, most recently about a month ago where he would sit up in his cot and just wail and wail and sometimes stand too! I would have to go in and lay him down and just pat him or put my hand on him until he went back to sleep. In both instances a bit of extra reassurance seemed to work and within 1-2 weeks he was back to his happy sleeping self and self settling as before. It's always stressful when perfect sleep goes awry - hope this doesn't last too long for you!

My normally super sleeper has turned into a bundle of mess before sleep time - day naps and night. She has gone from being put down in her cot and wriggling around for a bit before falling asleep on her own with no protests to crying her eyes out and growling before falling asleep. Yesterday she refused to sleep after lunch. Today was a bit better, she fell asleep sooner but the intense crying was still there. She recently started crawling and sitting up on her own. This evening I saw she was trying to stand at the side of the cot using the beams for support. She's up to her 8th tooth but hasn't had a reaction like this to teething before. Separation anxiety? Anything else I should bear in mind? TIA!
