How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes in Dubai

You’re sitting outdoor enjoying the beautiful night out there with friends and family…but the flying pests won’t leave you! You look around and it seems like you’re the mosquito magnet. For those of you who wonder if mosquitoes are attracted to some people more than others, the answer is Yes.

Experts have been doing intensive research to find out more on the reasons of this “fatal attraction”. Scientists confirm that mosquitoes have preferences “One in 10 people are highly attractive to mosquitoes”.

Female mosquitoes need human blood to develop fertile eggs, and apparently, not just anyone’s will do. Males do not bite people, thus do not feed on blood.

Who Mosquitoes Like Best?

There’s a tremendous amount of research being conducted on what compounds and odours people exude that might be attractive to mosquitoes. Scientists identified certain elements of our body chemistry that, when found in excess on the skin’s surface, make mosquitoes swarm closer.

People with high concentrations of steroids or cholesterol on their skin surface attract mosquitoes. These people may be more efficient at processing cholesterol, the by-products of which remain on the skin’s surface.

Mosquitoes also target people who produce excess amounts of certain acids, such as Uric Acid and gases like Carbon Dioxide. These substances can trigger mosquitoes’ sense of smell, luring them to land on unsuspecting victims.

Mosquitoes know their prey from a distance of up to 50 meters and use vision along with scent to locate humans; so, wearing colours that stand out such as black, dark Blue or Red may make you easier to find.

Other research showed that mosquitoes find certain blood types more appetizing than others. They are attracted to people with Type O blood nearly twice as often as those with Type A. People with Type B blood fell somewhere in the middle of this itchy spectrum.
