Hi everybody. I am new in this forum and was recommended to join you here :)

We have a little son that is 12 month old and I am expecting a new little boy in april.

That is why I am currently looking for a full-time nanny that is excellent with babies/toddlers. The work she will be doing is primarily taking care of and playing with our 12 month old son, but there will also be a little housework (in short: we need a NANNY not a "maid"). We both agree that our son is the most important and that housework comes second.

If any of you have a recommendation I would be very grateful to know! I really need a nanny that is good with children, since I would like my son to have a girl that is responsible, smiling, happy and creative.

Sabine, Good luck with your search. I just want to add that we found a nanny for our DD thanks to EW. We did our homwork and I reckon interviewed about two dozens of people in person (not to mention telephone interviews). Our helper is a [u'>nanny[/u'> - she is not qualified and she did not go to schools. It doesnt really matter to us as she has a great relationship with DD. She is mature, gentle, loving, caring, has a common sense and initiative. We made it clear that she is to look after DD and we are not concern about cleaning. Despite that she cleans whenever DD has her naps. If DD is grumpy or doesnt sleep during the day than she doesnt clean (I dont see a difference anyway ;)). She is a gem and I hope you will find the best nanny for your child. All the best!

The best nanny I found for my DD was on the Classified Section. She was a Filipino who back home was a qualified nursery nurse and she came with very good references. Her sole responsibility was looking after DD no household duties were included at all. The only room she cleaned was DD's nursery. Nanny was live out and came to me 5 days a week. We sponsored her and paid for her accommodation and transportation to and from work. For me experience counts as much as qualifications if not more but then that is my own personal opinion.

but it was mentioned on here (EW)that is impossible to have nannies from EU or anyplace else?I could be wrong... Knew a Dr. and his wife who brought their Aussie nanny with them from UK when they relocated. So it must be able to be done somehow but saying that they did pay her accordingly.

Occasional and permanent nannies, Tinies nany agency and Tiger lilly childcare are all Uk based agencies that often advertise UAE jobs - being an ex nanny I still get their positions emailed to me once a month. So it must be possible. They are looking at a wage of between 500-700 GBP per week in these positions with atleast one months paid holiday and flight tickets per year.

@Goose, I guess if you sponsor them ...... someone must have done it, or tried in the past. @SabineF - when DS was under school age in the UK I paid the equivalent of 2,600dhs a month for a full time nursery place, and I know friends who paid in the same region for a qualified nanny/child minder. That was way back in [b'>2002[/b'>! As I said previously if you want someone qualified you will have to pay for it. I would not have left my child with an unqualified person in either the UK or in Dubai. (ETA so with inflation what Trees says would figure) I just want to share my motherly experiences with you - I had to make a decision to either go back to work and pay the going rate for qualified childcare or give up my job and stay at home with my child. At the end of the day you have to make the decision on who will look after your child while you are not there (if you're going back to work that is) and if they are [b'>qualified[/b'> or not. SabineF .... to give you an insight into Norland - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norland_College Just adding my 5dhs ... a nanny is very different from a maid who has worked with children. Think about what you would expect from a nanny in your home country and I would say be prepared to pay the same for a 'qualified' nanny. As the old saying goes "you pay peanuts, you get monkeys" (ETA not saying some housemaids are good at their jobs but they are paid to be a housemaid not a qualified nanny) Good luck in your hunt :-) <em>edited by cymraes on 13/01/2011</em>

Im not sure what budget you have, or the kind of nanny you are interested in.. But "Norland Nannies" provide fully trained nannies to the highest level - think mary poppins types - lol ---but obviously very expensive.
