Whatever you do, do not move to OCEANA ON The Palm. It is deceiving because it looks great. Remember it only LOOKS good.
The penthouses are not yet completed and are to be made to owner specification. That means that in every single building, all residents will have construction above them. And the building is made in such a manner that the noise vibrates and streams into every single unit and it is not habitable.
The plumbing is messed up and just this week for example, water was cut off for all buildings for 48 hours!! It came on for a few hours and now it has been out for the third day! That means you cannot even flush the bathrooms! Imagine if you have children.
The other problem is that they do not know how to operate the emergency services system. So at 4 a.m. you hear this loud announcement in your apartment telling you to vacate the building immediately in three languages. It goes on for an hour before they turn it off.
Then 1/2 hour later it goes off again and the whole cycle repeats.
So not sure about other places on the Palm but avoid Oceana. Villa is a good choice ... but probably one off the Palm.
Thanks for all your replies...
After looking at some places today I guess we stick to a villa... I saw some nice ones today and hope to close a deal soon :).
The apartments across the road from the last block of Golden Mile are apparently nearly the same, I think they are called The Residences, but like everything, they also have their issues.
We are in Golden Mile as well and as soon as our lease is up, we are out of there, as much as I love the size of the apartment. Its such a shame but the lack of services and broken promises is just the last straw. We are going to look for a villa as we have a small dog.
Just been looking at the Palm apartments (3 bed) and my thoughts are:
Marina Residences - okay size (2,600 sq ft), reasonable finishes, big balcony, nice lobby and corridors, terrible access to pool (you have to go down to lobby out the back and then up a steep set of stairs - not good if you have a pram or are carrying lots of kiddie stuff), not all have gyms (building 6 has had all gym equipment removed and you have to walk to use gym in another building), the views aren't great due to location (we looked at the Marina Residences behind Tiara and you are really overshadowed by the Tiara).
Oceana - good finishings in apartment, awesome view from massive living room window, bit small (2,400 sq ft), no maids room, very tight car parking under the building, maintenance works being done on some of the pool (the lazy river), tiny balcony.
Tiara - small in size (2,200 sq ft), similiar finish to Oceana, nice pool, great views.
Shoreline - small (2,200 sq ft) ok finish, busy with lots of people, lots of families (might make noise situation worse), good car parking size.
TBH I am a bit disappointed with the Palm apartments, really wanted to live there due to location, views and ease of access to SZR, but for 220,000 AED I found all places to be quite small, and whilst nice finish wise, they definitely were not in the league of 'WOW' - view from Oceana was but that was about it.
Anyone know of bigger sized apartments on Palm other than Golden Mile?
We're currently in a 3B+M is Shoreline and agree that the finishing both in the flats and the corridors is extremely shabby. Sound proofing is terrible and we have ongoing issues with neighbours (they seem to think it acceptable to complain about my hairdryer waking them up at 5:30 in a morning, but we're unreasonable if we mention that their baby cries all night and keeps us up)
The beach and clubhouses are also tatty, but I'd rather have a tatty beach and pool area than no beach or pool in GM. Traffic in a morning is non-existant onto SZR
Shops aren't great, but they deliver and usually have whatever ingredient I realise I've forgotten when I'm already half way through making dinner. ANother advantage I find is that taxis are always about, apart from 11:45 to 12:15 on a Friday when everyone is heading out for brunch.
We're currently looking at a switch to Marina Residences though.
Ice Maiden, are you talking about Marina Residences?
Anyways, I will check it out tomorrow but PLEASE keep any other suggestions coming. I appreciate any help in this regard.
Thanks
Steffi - I meant the marina actually on the palm. It is on both sides and is at the bottom of the shoreline appts. We did look at marina but the few 4 beds around were actually very high up! Both felt dizzy (wimps!) And the traffic seemed heavy. But saying that our boys are always over there with their friends! We ended up in Umm Suqeim.
We live on Golden Mile and will be moving out as soon as our lease is up. Do not be fooled by an agent telling you the pool will be ready in 4months as we were. At the last owners meeting it was decided the non existent gyms/pools will be available on a membership basis, Waitrose et al will not be moving in (although they would like to) because the works are not finished etc... IFA passing the buck to Nakheel and vice versa as neither have the money to finish what they started. GM is however a far better finish and generous sizes for your money and the security/staff services are excellent. Shoreline are really tatty in comparison, the beach is not very clean in my opinion. Marina residences are OK but not as good a size as GM although nice pool if you have older children. We would only stay on the palm if we could afford Oceana or maybe Tiara but that is double the rent; its a shame as we really like our apartment but can't live without a pool.
Ice Maiden, we are flexible so far but we would like to have 4 bedrooms...
How ist the traffic going all the way up to the Marina? Where are you living now?
Thanks
Forget it. We moved into Golden Mile last year, and whilst the apartments are lovely, nothing is finished and all facilities, along with planned stores including waitrose are on-hold indefinitely. Whilst I hate moving, we are going. Personally, I think the beach clubs on the shoreline are tatty and not well managed either. The few shops are uselless with exception of milk and honey and the florist which are both nice and offer decent quality
I know that Golden Mile apartments do not have pool or gym however some on shoreline do, that is the nicer side with a lot more going on, bars, shops etc.
Hello Ladies,
I have viewing appointments tomorrow at the Palm Jumeirah. I´m looking at Shoreline and Golden Mile 4 bedroom apartments.
If you are living there do you have any advise/recommendations? How is life with a teenage girl there?
TIA for your input :)
