Has anyone had this done? Two years ago with my 2nd baby i just had to drink the fluid etc then if the results are abnormal u go in for further testing where u have to starve for 10 hours drink more have more blood tests etc....Now the American hospital say they have got rid of the first test and just go straight to the second test no matter what? mmmmmm is this just to make more money ?
Does any hospital still just do the first test or have all the hospitals scrapped it?

I had the same done when I was pregnant (DD is now 7 weeks old) had it done at medcare. Was told to fast over night(from 12midnight) and went to hospital 1st thing in the morning, had a set of blood and urine, had the drink, an hour later another set of blood and urine, another hour later, another set done. Was there for 3 hrs in total. I also had it done in the uk with DS but that was 4 years ago, I think it may have changed by now as H.A.K says. But the process in uk was shorter, think I was only there for 2 hrs instead of 3.

well, they check for glucose in your urine too at every apt, so ask them if it's showing any signs. Personally, if this is your 3rd with no prior symptoms,I wouldn't (wasn't even tested for my 2 pgs), but that's just me.

ask them to do the first test or skip it altogether (after discussion about your personal situation with your OB/Gyn). I know it's routine here, but not in the UK unless you're already presenting signs or have had a previous pregnancy with issues. It's quite a trauma to put your pregnant body through really if you're not really at risk. I know ive asked the nurse said no thats the only way u can do it...What with running around with in this heat and looking after the other kiddies i have to eat as soon as i get up otherwise im sick and feel like im gonna faint. I had no risk in my other 2 pregnancies so im really doubting wether to do it. But then i feel guilty saying what if hmmmmm

Thats what i was thinking hmmm will see if anyone else at the other hospitals are doing it the same? i didnt get no results on my last 2 pregnancies either so they say no news is good news at the American. If they are not-they are ignoring the recommendations.......

Just asked He Who is in the Know- "This is the new recommendation by American Diabetes Association. It came into effect last year and it is being adopted internationally. AHD is doing the right thing. " Hope that helps

When I got there, I got a blood test, then I had to drink the sugary drink and get another 2 blood tests. I was there for 3 hours in total, it's really boring so make sure you take a book! Yep thats what they said to me, 2 yrs ago at the American u didnt have to do all that u just had to drink and wait 1 hour and if results came back abnormal u then had to do the fasting and wait 3 hours ....wondered if all the other hospitals have got rid of the first simple test and go straight to this test then?
