Strattera sounds like it does well for you, summerdream! I will have to let you all know how my concerta works. I will email you both soon. It gets hard to get online with little ones running amuck! On medications, though, I focus more, and get things accomplished as opposed to just enjoying the day and then feeling horrible because nothing has been accomplished. I don't realize it until the end, either. But some medications make me very rigid. Like a dictator! why hasn't this been done? you were supposed to get this finished two days ago! We need to do this now. I notice every little detail down to the point where I get irritated.
I believe they are government hospital doctors who can prescribe Adderall - never found out which. Not easy to get the prescription even from these two docs.
I take and Thursday off and go over the weeked to India.
Straterra - Side effects: Terrible Naseau, but if taken with a big breakfast its minimal. I realise how helpful it is all the more now that I have been off for about 8 days - waiting for a cousin to get the meds from India next week. As you may notice I am struggling to be coherent in this post - my minds all over the place.
With Straterra I am more focussed, its easier to do tasks that are less interesting (almost everything is boring for me). Its most effective when taken very early in the morning. I have struggled with driving in recent years and was very close to making a decision to not drive. However Straterra changed that and I don't forget that I am driving. My memory is also better on it. I don't get lost for words (often never)as often when I am on the med.
Personally quite happy. I still am unable to read a book, article that is even in the slightest less interesting for me.
Do you know which doctors can prescribe Adderall?
Wow, that sounds great going to India every 3 months, I wish this was an option for me! But i couldn't get the time off from work :(
How to do you find Straterra? How does it effect you - if you don't mind me asking - if no, feel free not to answer.
I thought adderall could be prescribed by only two doctors in the UAE...I could be wrong.
I got a few recommendations and went around to see a few psychiatrists but nothing really felt right for me. The doc in Mumbai, India sees so many hundreds of patients maybe its that experience but his medicines were the most effective.
Given how cheap he is, I pay AED200 and that is sort of a donation, most patients are seen free or pay equivalent of AED10-20 its worth for me to fly every 3 months, see him and get restock medicines
dexedrine is the same drug as adderall and its illegal in Dubai.
I was on this until recently. I tried concerta and it made me zombie like - they also thought the dose was not high enough and then too high..... anyways, the drug was horrid.
So I am now just taking instant release ritalin..........
if you want to email me: misanna.ryan (at) gmail (.) come
I just filled my prescription of ritalin and it cost $22.87 for a months supply (no gov subsidy) and when I got concerta (14 pills in total) it was about $54
So its a lot cheaper. So I am hoping that it is not too dear in Dubai. If you do find out, please let me know.
Summerdream,
I was diagnosed as an adult, too. And with my adderall, I was taking an antidepressant as well, which helped with the side effects. I've not tried strattera, yet. I would LOVE to pay 10% the cost of my meds! I wrote down your email, and I will contact you soon. I had my email up, but changed my mind and removed it because it has my real name (not thinking). ANyway, thanks for posting! Looking forward to chatting! I will have to get a special email account for the forum...
Finally diagnosed as and adult - more ADD as opposed to ADHD now...guess the depression cut the hyperactivity!
I get my meds from India I am on Atomoxetine hydrochloride (Straterra) and I think its been quite useful. I have been asked to take a certain antidepressant and Depakene in combination - which I will restart when I take time off work. The side effects (hopefully initially) were not easy.
The generic medicines in India are very cheap and I pay about 10% or even lesser than what I would pay here.
summerdream 76 at gmail dot k om if anyone wants to chat
Thanks, Sue62! So helpful!
And lidkekiwi, My first visit was 700 AED, not sure on the ones to follow. The concerta was 239.50 AED. I take adderall. I tried concerta but it didn't work for me, but my doctor here thinks maybe the dosage just wasn't high enough so she wants me to try it. I honestly hate being on meds. And I HATE regular appointments, I feel I have more enjoyable things to do! But that's being an ADDer, I guess.

Hi
I have adult ADHD... I am about the move to Dubai at the end of August.
I hope the meds are not that expensive!
I was on dexedrine but had to change recently because you can not get this in Dubai. Now I am taking ritalin - instant release....... from what I understand, this is a lot cheaper than concerta because its an older drug. I have no idea of the cost...... but I shouldn't think it would be unaffordable......
As to see a specialist, I was thinking this would cost no more than 500AED per visit.
If you do manage to find out the cost of ritalin, please let me know. I wouldn't advise going off your meds!
Thanks,
Would like to chat with other adults with ADHD. I'm new to Dubai and have to be on medication for now and it seems I'm having trouble with lots of things like getting my prescription and paying for my appts and meds. Am I correct in my understanding that insurance doesn't cover the psychiatrist appointment or medication? I think I may have to go off my meds because it seems that I am about to pay over 350 US Dollars a month for medication and doctor's appointments! Any advice/suggestions on handling medications and appointments? I was told Concerta is the only ADHD medication available. Is this correct? And do you know of a forum or group here in Dubai for adults with ADHD?
TIA
