Yes, you can drink alcohol in public after sunset duing Ramadan. But hotel prices are very expensive, and the outlets here in Dubai are 30% more than the northern emirates which are duty free so it is well worth the trip. We usually go to Ajman these days, they have a great selection, good quality and good value. We used to take it to the hotel we were staying in when we first arrived, as long as you are discrete as simpleasabc says.

Take the Emirates road towards Umm Al Quain and follow the signs to Dreamworld Aqua Park. Once you see a large old airoplane on your left, take the next U turn and you will see the signs to barracuda.
