The doulas havent prolly replied cos its summer and most mayb out of the country. But I think Elizabeth Bain os Dubai Doulas is in town and she is excellent. Sylvia Winkler also superb, but i am not sure if she is in town for the summer. I am sure you will be able to catch many more of them from september on. Good luck with your birth! The doula ladies are simply so amazing and lovely! :)

I had a doula at City hospital and the hospital staff were great they left us and our Doula "to it". I have however heard that Welcare do not welcome doulas. How long ago did you deliver? October 2010

It depends on the hospital, but the thing is that is that in the labour ward where the doctor and midwife are legally responsible for the clinical outcome, a doula is not allowed to give clinical advice or interfere in the process, even if they are licenced by another health service. It is to protect the hospital from litigation as a result of decisions made by the mother following the doula's advice rather than the hospital staff. They should still be allowed to be there to support and encourage during the labour and birth process which is great.

I guess you would need to check with hospitals...litigation eg do doulas here have the necessary insurance? What happens if something went wrong? People end up getting named in lawsuits ...google it. Food for thought for Dubai - would hospital abdicate all responsibility if something went wrong?

Hi LuLee, I was just wondering as one hospital here has issues with them. Anyway thanx for letting me know that they are still allowed. I will look up the thread you're you've mentioned.

Yes they allow them, why wouldn't they? There are many doulas here, you can do a search. I think there was a thread recently with a list of doulas. They could be on vacation at the moment. I would like to add that there are many doulas that post here that come highly recommended. You have Joyce from www.doulasofdubai.com (EW-Delighted), Andrea from www.thedotingdoulas.com (EW-AndreaA), Nicola from www.dubaidolas.com, Sylvia from www.my-doula.com edited by LuLee on 04/08/2011

Just wondering as I would like to hire one for when I deliver later this year. I'm wondering because I've sent out emails and so far no response.
