We had the most fantastic time there. Great community, loads of children the kids parks arelovely and a lively tennis circuit. Jumeirah ladies group was fun, its close to IBM battuta and easy to get to spinneys town centre but the entrance from both ends was not great. We moved to Arabian ranches and I personally don't think you can beat it for quality build, community, facilities, ease of getting anywhere. If I'd known how happy we were going to be in Arabian ranches I would have moved there a year earlier. It's a far far better location than jumeirah islands. We saw so much more of the city from ar as you are closer o everything except the Marina from ar. I went to visit a friend back in jumeirah islands in June and I was really shocked at how tatty it had started to look. The beautifully maintained and clipped landscaping looked very unkept and it just felt very tired. The club is fab (although almost 5 years late!!!) so although the pools are small you have that lovely facility but......I would stay in ar dubaiden you won't regret it - far easier to get to most places and a much better location in my opinion. edited by Clairehdp on 17/08/2011

We just moved to Jumeirah Islands and so far we're really liking it. Yes, did look at a few villas with bad views, but managed to find one that's fine. Also found one that had been modified so really nice feel. YOu just have to look at enough places I guess. Also we're relatively near an entrance so don't feel like you're driving ages to get anywhere. Definitely get more sense of privacy than Meadows/Lakes but we wanted that. Also the finish (kitchen etc) is so much better quality than anything we saw in Meadows/Lakes. Although everyone is away now, does seem to be kid-friendly in terms of lots of kids in the 'cluster' and a good kids playground and little park (fenced in) just over the road (apparently there are a few of them - can't confirm). Pool really is more of a 'plunge' pool but that's OK for us. Garden not huge but plenty big enough for small kids. The Club (with big pool/gym etc) is open now. We also really liked Arabian Ranches, but couldn't face the drive into 'town'. Yes, the entries into Jumeirah Islands are ugly/awful now but at least it's a 5 minute drive to Sheikh Zayed so that's what we preferred. We might get sick of it but for now we're v. happy with the choice....

I totally agree with the other posters. We considered JI whenwe were unable to find a villa in The Lakes. Of all the homes we saw there, none were satisfactory. They either looked out onto substations, unkempt public areas at the side of the road, a petrol station, mobile phone tower or the main road up through the Springs/Meadows. The houses are grand, yes, but to me, it did not appear to be a children's neighbourhood. Yes, there are bike tracks through the lakes, but no regular prks for kids to gather etc. We eventually found a lovely place in the Meadows, which although it has maintenance issues that we are still trying to get fixed, was a lot cheaper and a more child-friendly environment.

Nice villas but many have views over construction now. The access (both via Meadows and from Ibn Batutta side) are shocking and not showing any signs of being improved in a hurry and as Edna says they are expensive, 275k and upwards. Gardens small and open to everything, pools not much more than plunge style. Saying that are some lovely villas there and I have known many people to love living there. Oh and I didn't mention - Nakheel built, not the highest quality and the common areas are showing sign of neglect right now poor watering and landscaping being left to die. HTH and sorry to be so negative but I have had to change my opinion over the years on JI, I used to like them!

suitable for families who want to live fairly isolated and pay lots of money for it. also very suitable to speed hump lovers, as they have an enormous amount of them.

It's full of big villas, so presumably it's suitable for families. Nobody ever talks about Jumeirah Islands any more. Possibly because most people can't afford to live there and so have no reason to talk about it?
