Get yourself over to the gardening section of the forum Suzy. :D It's not exactly fast-paced over there, but lots of info on gardening in the UAE. When the 'soil' is so poor, it's such a waste to throw out all of that free fertiliser. :) edited by Green-ish on 21/08/2011 Thanks Green-ish - I appreciate the advice from all!!

I live on the Palm and its part of the deal wid the Gardener to take the garden waste. he also however tells me he can remove only once a week as they cannot organise a truck every 2-3 days which I guess is ok.

Thanks Green-ish - when you say you reused the garden waste, how so? As fertilizer in the garden? Yep. :) Once it was all broken down it all went back on the garden as mulch. Of course, we left unexpectedly after only one year there so I had just finished mulching with my first lot of home-made compost when we had to rip up the whole garden. :(

I am in semmer villas and we have a contractor who comes round each sun morning to remove bulky waste from beside your bin. Must be in black garbage bags. In fact they've just been! Not sure if this was something EK organised?? I think so. OK thanks - I am not EK but you would think this would be a municipality service anyway?? Still trying to find an solution.... Everything that happens on DSO turf is all privately contracted by DSOA. It's all essentially private property so not under the 'jurusdiction' of DM.

One would hope, and think so. Not sure who and how you could find out, but charging to take those bags away is a bit steep, IMO. Steep is not the word!!!!!

Yes...one of the many, many things about the DSO that used to really annoy me. I was fortunate and had a compost bin so I re-used all of our garden waste. Anything that does not fit in your garbage bin costs extra to have collected. Make sure you are putting recyclables in the big bins out on the street (assuming these are still in every cluster??) so you have room in the bin for your green waste.

Hi there, I am new to Cedre Villas, C Block, and I am trying to find out the policy for having our cut grass, dead palm leaves etc collected. For 3 weeks now, our gardener has left our garbage bags full of cut grass next to our black bin, but the garbage truck never collects it. After a day in the sun it stinks likes crazy, and I can't fit the two bags in our regular bin as it leaves no room for our regular garbage. Today, the garbage man TOOK OUT our rubbish from the black bin (which had the cut grass in another garbage bag inside) and put it next to the OTHER 2 bags of grass on the ground! So now I have three stinky bags!! I asked our landlord's maintenance guys and they told me would have it collect for AED100 EACH TIME!!! This is ridiculous! I also noticed that a number of other houses in our street also have these famous black bags on the ground next to our bins. So, does anyone know the low down on how we are supposed to have our garden garbage waste disposed of without payment a fortune?? Thanks... my nose thanks you as well!!!
