Gleek can refer to: - Gleeking, a type of spitting that usually occurs while yawning - building up saliva in the salivary glands using some stimulus, like sour food or yawning, and then pressing the tongue upon the glands, causing the saliva to shoot out, usually at an impressive distance.

Yes, it's annoying to hear someone say "The Americans are doing it" -- it doesn't matter whether you are British, Vietnamese, Chinese, or African. It is just as upsetting when people in the US say "Muslims are terrorists" because some Muslims committed terrorist acts. You can't paint broad strokes across all people, institutions, etc. They act separately. There is a very clear distinction. If you said "ASD is doing, so can we" is a much different thing than "The Americans are doing it, so can we" -- There are several American curriculum schools here, and not all operate the same or with the same rules. So yes, of course it's offensive. Wow that's such an American trait getting all wound up an all over nothing, really take 5 lady and have a diet coke.

Oh so if the Americans can do it we can mentality? IS ASD profit making and are their regulations for seat holding? Is this a serious post? If the AMERICANS can do it? What's not to be serious about it? WOW. You don't see anything remotely offensive about assigning an entire nationality to an action ([b'>and an action that is blatantly upsetting to people)?[/b'> I'm vietnamese, does that help?

ASD was originally owned by DPC (Conoco) and was set up to give the Americans a place to educate their children in a similar manner to that of the US. Due to a difference in curriculum they managed to bypass a lot of the laws for schools over the years. Now things have changed and we will see more changes (like now they teach Arabic, but still as a general subject and not having to follow ministry ruling on Arabic for arab speakers etc)

well some schools have a debenture system. ASD has seat rental, every year. The debenture schools are NPM and have far lower fees. ASD is NPM???it is a complicated one that. they are NP, and are now govt owned, but still controlled by their board members.

If this is allowed it could pave the way for other schools to do the same. 10,000 dhs a child is a lot of money to cough up in one go. Exactly this could start a precedent wait until the other schools think they can do it! Its probably what started it. ASD this year instituted a 30,000dh seat holding fee - in addition to the seat rental. Yikes.

Not that it's much help here, but a non-refundable re-registration fee is requested in private schools in Switzerland, in March usually. In my experience, it's not nearly the equivalent of AED 10,000, more like AED 1,000 and it is automatically deducted from the fees for the first semester of the next school year.

OP. Have you clarified whether the 10,000 goes towards the school fees if your little one gets a place or even if you decline the offered place? If not, then I agree 10,000 AED non-refundable registration fee is just outrageous. It's for all children in the school to keep their places for next year, deductable over three terms, NON refundable, combined with fee increase yet to be announced. I see. I would even question the concept of RE-registration in order to hold onto a place your child already has, let alone the amount they are asking for. RE-registration of a child's place - never heard of it - is that normal in Dubai? Dubai doesnt have normal.:\:

Is there an authority that can be contacted to report the request for a non refundable 10,000 dhs place re registration fee? Does anyone know if this is legal? I understood KHDA stated payment for a terms fees could only be cashed in the month of the term start. Does the MOE have a complaint number or email someone could share? Do schools in Dubai come under Dubai or Abu Dhabi? Where is the highest educational authority? Any advice most appreciated. TIA Physically go to the KHDA office in Knowledge city and lodge a complaint, they may even call thc school directly. good luck
