Rehoming / relocating my 2 pugs

I'm the proud owner of 2 beautiful pugs, one female and one male (both speyed/neutered). My circumstances have recently changed and although I thought I'd be able to cope with them on my own in a smaller apartment it's proving difficult. I don't spend enough time with them and they need a lot more attention, walks, training and cuddles!

Although they are lovely dogs and get on extremely well (like best friends, always playing and cuddle up together at night), they do fight on the odd occasion when there's jealousy over food. They are also not very good at being walked - some serious training is needed.

I supppose my question is, is there anyone out there who would be willing to invest time and effort in them, who could offer a good home and lots of love??

My other option is to send them home to the UK to be with a family member who would love to have them, I'm just wary of the costs. Can anyone tell me how much this might cost? They're both fully vaccinated and have passports.

Any comments are much appreciated!

Thanks :)

Roadrunner, I just heard from Laura at the Dubai Pug Club....she said when you are ready, to contact her as they have a waiting list of people who want to adopt pugs :)...just to put your mind at rest, I am sure the adopters will be vetted before hand :)... www.dubaipugclub.com ...also RR, you will meet people, go to their homes if necessary ...you will be able to see them with your dogs...and at the end, if you like the people and feel good that they will love your dogs like you do then, they will have found a family and your heart will be broken, but you will know they will be loved and taken good care of :)

I have contacted K9 but heard nothing as yet. I have only emailed - I can't talk on the phone about this without getting too upset! I have been doing my best with them for the past 7 months but now work has picked up the time I am at home is decreasing so need to start looking at options. SueB, it's not that I am not sure I want to rehome them, it's I'm so scared they would go to the wrong home :( RoadRunner, believe me the team at K9 will be very understanding. They have sad dog owners appealing to them every other day for help. :( They do this every day and have done for years so your precious dogs will go to the very best home offered. Give them a call, let them help and let them put your mind at ease. 050 274 19 49 ETA - Oops...or Sue's contacts. Either way...take action today. *hug* edited by Green-ish on 07/11/2011

well if you dont get the word out and have lots of possiblities then you are limiting yourself. The more people know about the better and I would have thought the Pug Association would be a great place to let people know you are looking for ahome..where better than Pug People!!!! so get going if you want to do the best for your pugs :)...you have support here so comeone :) http://www.facebook.com/dubaipugclub http://www.pugvillage.com/forum/pug-life/106019-dubai-pug-club-meet-pic-overload.html edited by SueB on 07/11/2011 edited by SueB on 07/11/2011

I'm still considering rehoming my 2 pugs (as mentioned in original thread)... please let me know if anybody is/knows anybody that might be interested. TIA xx RR, why aren't you contacting K9? As Green-ish has said they do amazing work and would probably give you details of people they have looking for small dogs. You really are cutting your chances by not contacting them. To be clear, K9 would not give out details of people on their waiting lists. K9 would take the dogs in, have them immediately assessed by a vet & brought up to date with all health/vacc/worming/flea etc requirements. While all of the vet checks are happening they would start contacting and interviewing potential new homes. If the vet finds the dogs healthy and ready for re-homing, my guess is they would be in a new home within days. Small, healthy dogs are easy to find good homes for. 'Easy' if you know what you're doing. ;) I agree with Sue. RR, you need to make a decision and get busy. If you know you're not giving the dogs the best possible home, there are people out there who are passionate about animal welfare who will take care of it for you. Moving a much loved pet on is hard...I KNOW that. I have fingers crossed for a happy outcome all round.

roadrunner, it has been 7 months since you contacted EW to ask if anyone was interested in your pugs. So, they have spent 7 months alone and you are still not sure if you even want to rehome them ...you havent contacted K9 for advice, have you contacted the Pug contacts I posted? were they at all helpful? I think you really need to make up your mind and be more proactive on finding the lovely dogs a new home.

No I haven't contacted K9 but I wouldn't want to give them to that place, would rather keep them with me until someone could take them - do you think they'd just give me the contact details of people who are looking? ... "That place" does amazing work in re-homing dogs. They do have LONG waiting lists of people looking for small dogs and everyone is interviewed in great detail before being allowed to adopt a dog. The management 'staff' (all volunteers) say that they treat every single dog as if they are re-homing their own pets. K9 has years of local experience in finding good homes. Do you know what to look for in a new owner and how to sort out those who'll lie and say what you want to hear so they can take your dogs. Please consider K9. I'd bet your dogs would be in a loving, forever home within a week! edited by Green-ish on 22/04/2011

Hey, I had rescued a Dalmatian from the Municipality (owners had dumped her). I contacted K9 friends to see if they could help me find her a home and they were really helpful. I kept her at my house, and they put me in touch with people who were interested in adopting her, and they managed to help us find a wonderful family to take her, so we were really happy with their help. Their kennels are actually really full, if they can help at all, they would probably help by putting possible adopters in touch with you, and I highly doubt they would take them into the kennels they have. Thats what they did with us anyway, and since K9 is well known, many good families contact them first about adopting dogs rather than notice boards etc so its a good idea to get in touch with them to see if they can help.

Candyfloss - they're in an apartment alone all day at the moment and although they are fine I don't think it's fair to leave them all the time - how long are you out for per day? Leaving them alone is one of the reasons I want to rehome, but if you don't work late and spend time at home on evenings and weekends then it is better than what they have now!

Yes they've got to stay together I'm afraid, if they're apart for any length of time the younger one cries and cries until the other one comes back!
