Thinking of going to Egypt in December for a week or so with two children (8 and 10). Youngest is studying Egypt in school at the moment, so thought it would be a good time to go (not to mention that I've been wanting to go since I was about 12 and studied it at school, so have waited a very LONG time!). Any suggestions re tours or whether we should put an itineray together ourselves or? Anything we should absolutely not miss? And anything we should avoid?!

Many thanks in advance!

Thank you, all, for the information and advice. It sounds like we should probably go another time, however, so will make a note of the travel agent (thank you, Mohandissa) for when things are calmer (hopefully soon - must be very difficult for Egyptians and others living there). Thanks again d

at the moment i would avoid going to egypt, specially to Cairo. The security isnt stable and foreigners arent welcomed at the moment. Weather will be awful, might rain and cold weater (approx. 10 degree). God knows when the election will start, as i know it was planned to be in December. I lived in Egypt a couple of years and i wished to go back to meet my friends but i scared to fly to Cairo. If you consider Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh or El Gouna for vacation that should be fine and secure. Taba or North of Sina is amazing but in my opinion not safe as well.

I would be careful. Alot of tourist things are a bit disrupted now due to the changes...... and for the record, I am not saying anything negative about egypt.....:) My sis in law lives there, still can be a bit chaotic.......

Travco are a large travel company who we have used in the past who can offer assistance. Just email them what you want or ask for suggestions and they can put it together for you including hotel pick up and guide etc. In Cairo the Pyramids (don't miss the Pharonic funeral boat alongside which needs extra ticket but worth every penny), Egyptian Museum, Khan Khalili Bazaar, Felluca trip, Pharonic dinner boat and my favourite - the Pharonic Village (with actors playing out the roles of Ancient Egyptians in a living museum)... December can feel very cold at night, so take woolies. Travco can also put together the whole trip for you if you want. [email protected] www.travco.com
