Yes thanks for asking simpleasabc, managed to get a temporary passport within one day after a bit of begging in London but now the difficult task is trying to get an birth certificate from Oz with no ID so I can apply for a permanent passport! Does anyone know how to replace your residence visa and the costs involved with this?
Hope it goes ok. If you've ever had fingerprints taken (for EGATE) it's possible for them to be verified against your own.... the embassy/consulate would just have to ask the UAE authorities to release them I guess. Worth asking about if the no ID thing is a problem...
It wasn't a lost passport, but an "about to expire" one and DH had it within a couple of hours by applying in london. Might be different as he had the old passport in hand, but they were very efficient.
Thanks shykitty, unfortunately no access to cheap tickets!! I was suppose to be returning to Dubai tonight but unable to do so now as no passport so I am hoping London can help me get a replacement quickly!! Any aussies had to do this in London before??
Have heard it can be a PITA to get a replacement in the UAE, so if you're getting the runaround once back in Dubai, and have easy access to cheap tickets (am assuming you work in aviation by some of what you wrote) do what a friend did... get an emergency passport/visa to leave UAE for Oz, go directly to Melb/Syd or any major city and apply in person, they can do it in a day or two.... especially if the Aussie embassy in UAE can't do it quickly. I think the one in Dubai is only a consulate so not sure if they can do....
Anyway this was just what my friend did as they were giving her the runaround and saying it would be two weeks- obv with needing a pp for work she couldn't wait that long and it was easier. Having said that she lost hers in Dubai, not outside of the UAE...
You poor thing, what a bore. I hope it all gets rapidly resolved for you. Greece is coming out of this so badly.. Honestly, the Athenians are really lovely people, except my ma-in-law ;)
Thanks for all of your help, Greek police report done. Heading to UK instead of London as emergency passport in Athens does not have the chip so the embassy said I might not get into the UAE, the emergency passport in UK does have the chip apparently.
Why don't you start with the Australian Embassy in Athens?

Get a police report in Athens, ask your Embassy there to issue you with an emergency passport and fly back to UAE and enter on a tourist visa, then get your residence visa and ID replaced using copies of the documents you used to get your emergency passport?

Does anyone also know how to get an Australian passport in London to replace a stolen one....I have no form of ID on me except a very old cancelled Australian passport.
mais akshon list you are so helpful!
*snort*
:D
OP, you could try (and some will say they've got replacement DL without Police report...but for the easiest, less hassle way, follow steps below.)
It won't really matter that you don't have copies, but it would have definitely been more helpful if you did, and if you have the numbers then that is better for the letters. If you don't make sure you have pp and visa copy numbers.
Thanks for your help, so a Greek police report written in English wont be sufficient? And I dont have copies of Drivers licence and Reg card, does this matter? :(

- UAE Drivers licence
- UAE Registration card for car
If any aussies out there I also need to replace my Australian Drivers licence, if anyone knows how I can do this without going to Australia please let me know. TIA.
I'm from Tasmania :) and looked into this while at home cause DH is going to need to do it, although his licence is expiring. you can request a pack online and they send it out, fill it all in with photos etc, i think someone has to witness and then send it back. It's only good for 2 years rather than 5 years but that's enough to tide him over til next time. Search on your states website, I am sure it's similar.
For both, you'll need a police report.
- first write your letters in English, I Ms Skyhighgirl, holder of XYZ passport no XX, DL license No XX etc - lost my DL/Reg card etc
- take to any typing centre to be translated/typed in arabic
- take to Bur Dubai police station at Trade Centre r/about (only open til about 1pm for this)
- request police report (costs AED 20)
- take police report/copes of DL/Reg card to RTA and request new ones.
