Hi ladies...we moved into the MR's about a month ago. Our landlord has been out of the country and we still have not received from her the instruction manuals for the kitchen appliances. For the most part I can get everything to work (except for the ice maker/water dispensor on the fridge, I think it was never connected to a water supply). But my questions is, am I blind or is there no lint trap in the washer/dryer!?!? Where does the lint go??? I've done at least 20 loads by now, and it runs fine so I have to guess that there isn't one???
help :)

I have been searching high & low for the little maintance door to no avail : / Also... no matter how much soap/detergent I use in our dishwasher, it never fails... our dishes come out smelling like fish!! Does anyone else have this issue?? You are referring to the dryer?? When I gave you the steps to follow, I took them from the manual that came with the machine. As I never thought about the lint filter and condensation, I went to the machine and walked through the manual. Only problem is that the manual was for a different machine!!! But the good news is: I figured it out. For the dryer: lint filter: when you open the door you will the lint filter in the rim. Put your hand in right over the rim and the filter will be below it. Condensation: top of machine facing you to your left is a drawer. Pull this open by putting your fingers underneath where there is a "slot" for them. Pull it out all the way. There is a long container that collects the water. Pull it all the way out and the hole to pour out the water is at the back of the container. When the container is full the dryer will not run. Dishwasher: I use the soap with lemon, but I find a bit of stink in the washer, but not my dishes!!!, after I use it so I leave it open a crack. I think it comes from rubber because of the heat. I plan on looking for something in the market "dishwasher cleaner"?? Hope that helps. Sorry for the confusion!!!!

Ladies ............ you mentioned a lint/fluff trap on washer dryer??? I actually cannot find the "maintenence box" you described?? So gather there may be a few different types of machines lol as just checked manual for mine and no mention of lint/fluff removal apart from running a Freshen up programme. ;) ME NEITHER!!!! But, I think I know why...in MR there were two kinds of dryers purchased. Some apts have a separate washer and dryer (that has the lint trap) then the others have a washer/dryer combo unit (this is what we have) and the combo unit doesn't have the trap. Where the lint goes is beyond me. Still no fires yet, so I guess it's not supposed to have one? :)[/quo Guess not lol Im sure somebody out there will have an answer lol ;)

We have our keys to Marina Residence but have not moved in yet, hopefully in the next few days. Anything else worth keeping an eye out for would be useful. One thing, were you all given a parking bay in the underground car park?? We have not been told if we should be using one in particular, thanks.

Hi Crystil, Must be building 1, as when you look out of one of the bedrooms you are looking directly across to the other complex. We are going to be one floor up? Look forward to meeting all of you. Karen

Thanks for the reply Laura, I have been trying to find the paperwork on which building we are moving into but it must be at DH office. All I know is if you are going down the Palm it is left side and the building closest to the apartment complex that is silver. Does that make sense LOL. When we were walking around the complex last week we got lost coming back from pool so I understand alittle of that. We are really looking forward to moving and getting settled. Karen Must be Marina 1, 2 or 3. Oceana is next to MR 1. I'm in building 2 and I do like it here. Being on the 1st floor I have the extended terrace (love it!!!!). Only drawback is that the people in the apartments above think it's OK to throw trash over onto it. I had to speak to one tenant - lovely girl - and asked her if she could move her plants because it was determined that her housekeeper was pulling out the dead leaves and tossing them over to my terrace. I really like it here - I guess that's because it's probably not even 50% occupied!!! The one thing that I don't like is that the trash chutes are not working. A bin is put in the trash rooms and unfortunately there are people - on my floor at least - who think it's their private trash room and leave their garbage in a very disgusting manner to be cleaned up by maintenance and subject to other tenants to deal with when putting trash in the trash room. I can't tell you how many times trash was strewn on the floor and the bin was empty!!!!

DH just gave me the name and number of the guy who fixed the shower...if I'm not mistaken, he works directly for the contractor, not Nahkeel....he came to fix the shower instead of Nahkeel because I think the contractor is now liable to correct the design flaw since they are the ones who built it...although Nahkeel approved the design. My husband supplied the tiles for the bldg's so he had some insider info on all this. Anyway the guy's name is Yunus (how you pronounce that I don't know) and his number is zero five zero, two seven nine, seven three nine one (sorry I'm spelling the numbers, it seems you have to do that on here? correct me if I'm wrong). If you call Nahkeel to fix it, they will only give you the silly rubber strip so make sure to call this guy first! kmm1262 welcome to the neighborhood! If I were you, I'd have them fix the shower before you even move in if that's possible. We had to wait 24 hours after they fixed it to take a shower since the mortar had to dry. I took 'showers' in the bath tub before they came and fixed it for over a week and it was a mess, water everywhere... plus I'm pregnant so all the bending over to pick up the handheld was not so easy :) Otherwise we're pretty happy living there, I just wish the marina downstairs was a bit more lively! Everytime I go for a walk it feels like a ghostown! Last week I was walking with my DH and we passed a woman with a stroller and baby. I've got a baby bump so I smiled and said hi to her, thinking 'oh this could be a nice friend to have who also has a baby' she looked at us like we had three heads and didn't smile or say hello, nothing. Even if she didn't know english, everyone understands a smile, right?!?!? But that was the only nasty lady, everyone else has been really friendly who we chat with in the lifts :)

Otherwise, great place to live LOL :) thanks in advance for the copies :) Using a tube of paint, create little paint drops (nothing too big) on the ground/floor near the wall to follow?? Something Ikea-like but not with arrows???

KMM - nice to hear someone else is moving in..we are on the 11th floor and i think its just us lol. We have been in MR for nearly a year and have just signed for another, so please Feel free to ask if you need anything - or fancy meeting up. To be honest - we have only had a few problems; 1) the shower leaks - but luckily ginabeana is in the know..so hopefully that problemo will be solved for us all shortly :) 2) access to the pool - not really that bad - just a pain - as being lazy you sometimes have to walk around to the front of the building. However - since moving here ive put on the dreaded "dubai stone" so i doubt an extra 2 min walk will do me any harm, ha ha 3) the pool is friggin freezing! but hoping they will turn off the chiller - or turn on the heater soon - as last year the pool was lovely! Overall, We love it too - so dont be put off :)

Hi I live in Bld 5, 3rd floor, we have been here for nearly 1 year and have just signed for another year, we also have problems with the shower and was told there was nothing they could do about it so would love details on how to sort it, our LL is really lovely and any issues I have he sorts so no complaints there. I have a couple of nigglies though 1, the common areas are not cleaned as often as they should be, other buildings on palm a lot cleaner than ours, and 2, the pool is soooo cold why can they not heat it, and know what you mean about the Kitchen having no cupboards or work top space or come to that sockets! but we manage apart from that we really like living here so enjoy:) edited by mwebster on 16/01/2011

Hi Ladies, We, DH and I and moving into Marina Residence in the next week or two, depends on when all paperwork complete. Looking forward to it. At least now I know what to look for in washer dryer and Fridge!! Also interested in the shower leaking, will have to look at that first thing. If there is anything else you ladies can think of that I should be aware of please let me know. I have only been in Dubai for 3 weeks so all is still new. Hope to see (meet) you soon.

LOL Crystil you are too funny! Yes you are a good girl too and you shall also get a cookie LOL!!! Oh **** I can't believe there is a lint trap down there, I've been washing like mad, I can't believe that thing is still running. It must be fully loaded with lint by now, husband is going to roll his eyes at this one hahaha!!! Well our LL is enjoying her time stuck in Pakistan with my manuals and keys/cards...once she comes back I will give her a piece of my mind...untill then we're screwed. As I was saying to Laura, they did an excellent job repairing the shower (how many times can you say that in Dubai?!?) they actually installed a stone threshold, not a rubber strip. Its about 35mm high, so there is no water leaking at all. You must get them to come out and do this for you. The guy told us that they were originally just doing the rubber strip but they kept getting complaints that it still wasn't working. I will give you guys the name and number of this guy tmrw...

NO!!! Don't listen to those idiots! They told us they are fixing every single shower in the bldg...they know all about the problem and fixed it within two hours. Now its perfect and not one single drop of water comes out. Whoever you talked to is a lazy moron. I will get the number from my husband tonight of the guy who helped us. He was really great and was even early for the appointment we made to have the showers fixed. He also offered to come back if we ever needed anything around the house done, like hanging pictures/lights etc. Of course he's expecting $ but not much I'm sure. Yes, whoever designed the bldg must not realize there is such things as strollers or wheelchairs....unbelievable horrid access!!! Everytime I try to get to the pool I get lost in those back corridors...I feel like such a moron, but there are no signs to direct you!! Otherwise, great place to live LOL :) thanks in advance for the copies :)

Gina, at the bottom of your washer to your left there is a "maintenance" box. Push the little flap down to open it up, turn the blue handles so that you can pull the tray out. Apparently there are two things you need to do. One is to pour out condensation (news to me!!) Keep the tray horizontal when doing so (so says the manual). There is also a fluff filter in that container which you would lift out to clean. Hope that helps. It certainly helped me - first time I found out about it having looked in the manual for you!!! Your LL should have received a folder with all the manuals in it. To get the original key copied they cost AED350!! You should also possess 2 cards for parking/access to building. As for the water seepage I just had maintenance come up and they replaced the plastic strip on the bottom. Still get some leakage but what I do is try to remove as much water as possible by the door with my foot (leg exercise) before opening the door. It seems to help, but still a need for a sponge. Do I get a cookie???

haaaa no worries I will bring the manuals to work tomorrow and photocopy for you -will leave a message on here for you when its done. Jeez you have had a nightmare - keys an all. There is def not enough storage in that kitchen, there is only 2 of us and i struggle. Although i have used a whole cupboard for drink :) OMG - the shower drives me insane! I practically wash towels everyday as use them to mop the floor - for fear of falling over or flooding our bedroom - we were told it is a design fault with all the properties and to basically lump it! As you have had yours fixed - im going to insit ours gets fixed...again! Whilst were on a rant about MR - getting back from the pool to the main building - pain in the ass!

Laura you are so sweet!!! We live in bldg 6 so we're neighbors!! Yeah I hear you about the water connection to the fridge, I don't think I'd want to drink the tap water anyway...that is a good idea to hide the big bottles in the cupboard, only thing is I have zero extra space!! The apartment we moved from had a kitchen twice the size of what we have now, so I had to get extremely creative in my 'stacking' of the tupperware :) Most of my dryers back home had a 'lint trap' that you had to clean after every use...it's the little bits of fuzz that comes off the clothes...it's so strange this dryer doesn't have one, unless it's the design and it's not meant to? If you could photo copy whatever you have I would owe you big time!! Our landlord is useless...she gave us ONE key, no access card and no key to the patio. We refused to give her agent his commission until he settles this. He doesn't know when she's coming back to dxb since she's having 'visa issues' whatever I don't care not our problem!! Don't lease an apartment if you can't supply us with the basic requirements. My husband and I have to share the access card which is a huge pain, we had to change the locks so we could each have a key (couldn't copy the original key for some reason). So things have been a mess so far...did you guys also have shower issues? They had to come and completely re-install the shower threshold since it leaked like a tidal wave...we couldn't use either shower for over a week!!! LOL sorry for my venting!!! :) If you're able to copy the manuals I will bake you something yummie, you're such a doll!

Hey, Welcome to MR! What building are you in? Im in building 5 and can photo copy our manuals if that helps? The fridge - you need to ask this to be connected to the water supply. However as the water isnt very nice to drink - we havent gone for this option. Apparantly - you know the water dispensers you can get delivered weekly? Well these can be connected to the water dispenser in the fridge and the water bottle can be kept in the cupboard..our security guard gave us a number for someone to do this - although we havent got around to it. The washer dryer - lint? do you mean like dirt etc? I think there is something in the door rim you pull out? I will check tonight when i get in
