They sell Butterball at Waitrose, so I imagine Spinney's must have them too.

we did a cooked turkey from spinneys last year having done some from hotels etc. when we picked it up it was cold, it had obviously been cooked the day before and refrigerated over night. Wish we had been told when we ordered it! had to try and reheat it to have with dinner!! Bit difficult. was nice though EEEEEEEEESH! I cannot stand re-heated poultry....it has a wangy taste in the back of the throat. I would not trust Spinneys with anything, never mind a cooked turkey! Now that's just a recipe for food poisoning .....

If you can bring yourself to pay for it (not cheap), Waitrose do fresh turkeys imported from France. I know you have to cook it yourself but blimey, they're delicious.

Ok, stupid question. Where do I get a butterball turkey, are they really like proper turkey? All juicy and flavourful? I've never cooked one before, always used fresh in the UK. And since weve been here we have always travelled over the holiday. I did check the link someone gave earlier to the butterball site and I guess I'm sold on it, they make it look so easy ;-) I dont have a problem managing the whole dinner and I know I could get one from a golf club or hotel but I would rather do my own veg and potatoes (DH would never forgive me if we didnt have my roasties). Is there anywhere that just supplies a cooked turkey? C4 have some in their freezers. They are really easy to defrost and cook. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Have bought the frozen Butterball turkeys for the last three years and find them to be good. Take the bag with the neck, giblets etc out and simmer (having taken the contents out of the bag obviously) in water for about 30 minutes to make stock for the gravy. Always used to buy fresh turkey in the UK but no way am I going to pay the stupid prices for a fresh turkey here in Dubai. Knew a guy who reared turkeys in the UK when we lived there and, in fact, helped him pluck them before Christmas. Nothing better than standing in at least six inches of feather and down when the temperature is freezing outside! Feet were lovely and warm even if the hands were ****** cold! Also bought our turkey from him. He said that the optimum weight was 15lbs - best bone to meat ratio just in case anybody is interested.

We order fresh and cook it ourselves (they will cook it f you want) we usually pick up on Christmas eve and the turkey for the past 3 years has been great :) edited by Purple on 04/12/2011

You would be better off with a frozen Butterball......JMHO I'd have to agree with this. Better off buying a frozen one and cooking it yourself.
