I heard that you everyone needs the Emirates ID before applying for residence. What about newborns?. Has anyone done the process?

Its blue background for Dubai. Did DD's last month and took white pics and had to get them changed. They just photoshop them in the Kodak place. HTH. in our po box in abu dhabi they have now put in a booklet saying to get id cards etc done, and in it it still says white background......!!!??? lol but it is blue that is required.

what he meant was that the ID is not needed for visa process, after the visa is processed we will need to apply. I went to the typing center and they could not process the ID application without a visa. right i see thats better then, and so they havent changed their minds again about kids and id cards, but of course when is a "newborn" a "newborn" you better do it quick then, as you may not be classed as a newborn anymore.

So, I talked to my PRO again (goverment company) and inmigration changed their mind again and now newborns do not need emirates ID, hopefully they wont change their mind again. can you accept that the pro is right, they require all people to have an id card, even children. why would a newborn be any different from a child that is 1 who they do require a card. the reason they need an id card is so they can cross reference visas/health card/labour card/etc etc. if you use a government hospital for vaccinations etc for babies they will be using their id card for that in the future etc etc. yes there is no real need for children to have a card that can be used for a labour card or credit card eventually but they will be requiring it for some of the government services that may be used by children. i would still get one as you dont know when they will bring in other "requirements".

Since there's a separate forum for Abu Dhabi & Al Ain, I've assumed discussions here are for Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah & Fujairah! ....... confused.com So for the benefit of the other northern Emirate residents, is it still white background? it should be blue for every emirates as its for the emirates identity authority.

[u'>Children below 15:[/u'> Documents required for each group t Colored passport-size (4.5 x 3.5 cm) photo with white background Has this changed at some point - I have blue background photos having been told that was what was needed! DD will not be impressed having to smile again! posted at the same time... blue background defo needed in abu dhabi. if you got them done at a photoshop they can just change the background colour and reprint no need to take the picture again. edited by busybee2 on 13/12/2011

thanks busybee, I live in AD and I was trying to get the ID done for my baby but the typing center said they cannot do it without a visa??. Do you know what typing center is good and knows the rule? yeh i know you are in ad, the quietest one is basement of mbz mall. i have used the one opp wadha mall always really quick and easy. there are loads around though. you have to get a temp id and then go and do the visa and then come back to finalise the eida process etc. as a child under 15 you just have to do the paperwork no need for anything else. just need passport and money etc.

anyone knows when the REAL deadline is? the real deadline is do it sooner rather than later, of course if your visa is coming to its end then there is no point, but if you still have years left then do it sooner. in abu dhabi now you have to have one in order to do any traffic things, and they will bring in more and more uses for it. they have only let dubai off because there are too many people to try and cram into a small timeframe, they have improved the services but if people still put it off and off then you will go back again to the same thing whereby too many people applying at the same time and the system will crash again, so just do it and get it over and done with, you never know they may bring in different rules again like you need it for "going shopping" and then perhaps people will get it done!!!

Hello Children under a certain age do not require one ( I am sure i read that somewhere) no everyone needs one. in the beginning they only required children under 15 to comply with the census which was at a cost of 70dhs, then they changed their mind and required everyone to apply for the id card, this being because children were put in the census but were not given an id number, only when you apply for your id card do you get your id number, and this was confusing things even more, so they decided that everyone now has to have an id card, originally it was going to be for children under 15 (over 15 you are classed as an adult so have to do the fingerprinting etc) the charge was going to be a flat fee of 120dhs, then they again changed it so that everyone pays the same ie 100dhs for each visa year and 40dhs for the card and 30dhs for the typing. so to answer your question yes you do need to get an id card for a newborn. what i think is confusing you further is that children under 15 will not be fined if you do not have an id card (and this will depend on which emirate you live in, dubai being later than abu dhabi for example). you have to go and get a temporary id card so that you can formally process the visa and then you go back to formally do the id process. now the eida and medical visa place should be in the same place or close by to walk to in order to do both the processes together.
