Good morning ladies,
since I moved here my scalp is full of dandruff, so after trying various natural and pharmaceuticals shampoos, I decided to ask to a specialist. Could you suggest a dermatologist competent in the scalp? thank you so much! Eli

my o.h has Seborrheic dermatitis, very itchy and irritating scaly patches behind ears and on scalp with sore red face on cheeks and chin if left untreated. for years he has been using nizoral and capasal ( capasal used to be available here but now cant find it any where, nizoral you can buy.) nizoral you use once a week and leave on for half hour or so. capasal to use daily. we are now getting a family member to send from uk as we cant find it any where here. the pharmacies will recommend other shampoos and none of them work as he has tried them all - all that works for him and our eldest son are the ones i mentioned above. if you find these dont work or others, go to a dermatologist. good luck. ps - for some reason elizabeth arden 8 hour cream seems to work for his face, his skin has never been better in the years hes been using it. he used it by accident after his face got sore one day and i gave him some that i had in my bag. edited by fairwater on 25/01/2012 great recommendation. the 8 hr cream works in mysterious ways--that's for sure! thanks for the reminder

Nizoral tablets contain itraconazole and should only be taken short term....as for the skin, salicyclic acis, sulphur, zinc or selenium sulphide shampoos are the best.

Are you sure it is dandruff and not Psoriasis on your scalp. Psoriasis in your head is normally found by hard lump of skin - if the answers is yes, go the chemist and get Dermovate - available over trhe counter here. It is ointment in small bottle, squeeze ointment on affected areas and rub in. Use for a few days and it should help clear it up. Psoriasis is caused by stress or change in conditions,water/weather etc HTH I think that might be it as it is hard lumps and always on the same spots along my hairline. Sounds just like Psoriasis then! That's what I get. Dermovate will definitely help - let me know how you get on. Thanks. Willl update again.

Psoriasis is normally found around hair line, nape or behind ears. very differnt than dandruff, the scales are silver in colour and bleed if you lift them..... get it checked out Yes, but if you rub the lumps they scale, just like dandruff.

Okay thanks. So I will also go looking for Juniper tar shampoo. Polytar really dries my hair out terribly.

Poly tar is used for excessive scale and is coal tar based which is carconagenic. It is also a very poor quality shampoo so has detrimental effects on the hair itself. Juniper tar is a better option..(in my view ;O)

any product containing; prioctone olamine, ketoconozal or better still juniper tar are the best... Nizoral is not the best and stay well clear of poly tar is my advice... Whats wrong with polytar? What shampoos contain the above mentioned products?

Is nizoral available here? In the past went dandruff issues have crept up I've used that a couple times and problem solved. You can buy Nizoral at pharmacies. They also sell Polytar at pharmacies which I have found to be even more effective.

As I mentioned before, I have had a miserable time in the past with similar, so I suppose its a bit of a crusade of mine to help point peolple in the right direction...trust me when I went to Kingsley(trichologist in UK) saved my life..... Gotcha. I'm a crusader myself in some arenas llol :) we all have something we're passionate about, and I can see why. Hair issues are maddening! I may see them about my dandruff. I need to get it sorted and I have a shampoo cemetery of bottles that are 80% full. thanks for the tips!
