So here's the deal..

On receiving my residency visa, I will be sponsoring DH and son for the residency permit..HOWEVER..

They will be entering Dubai with me first hand as we are all British nationals (my employment visa has been issued..but they are entitled to stay 30 days-no visa needed).

I know the process of sponsoring them will take longer than 30 days..will they have to exit then re enter Dubai and then I commence with sponsoring them? Please help!!!!

Visa renewal fee at immigration is more like 720aed per person at the moment, DH just took in laws to Oman Hatta border to get new visas instead as cheaper. Also went first thing on a Friday morning, no queues, as Carol said, done within 4 hrs.

If you do have a car and decide to do a Visa run to Hatta/Oman, you don’t need Oman insurance, in fact you don’t need to show your car insurance at all, IF, when approaching the Oman entry point, you enter the first large car park on the left. Then walk in. When the person behind the desk asks where you are going, just say you are going straight back to Dubai, and they will stamp your entry and exit for Oman. Then just head back to the UAE entry point. Yes they give a 10 day grace period :) I did this for 8 months, no hassle and I used to go on Friday mornings first thing about 8am and there were never any queues and it took me about 4 hours for the full round trip. Carol--That's exactly what we did, and this last time (I went with my hubby for support lol, on New Years) and they asked for our Oman Insurance before. that never happened! really? OK well best take the car insurance then ;) [b'>[/b'>Nope! I'm wrong. I just asked my husband and he says we did not, and I was too busy playing my word games and counting palm tree farms lol we had the insurance paper in our portfolio that contained our passports; that is all that he was showing at the checkpoints doh!

Most frugal options are 1) drive to Oman. My husband does this on occasion if he goes 40 days without needing to travel for work. You can rent a car from hertz for 137 dhs a day + 100 dhs for Oman insurance (Hertz will know what you need for a day trip, coverage wise), $ of petrol, and 200 dhs per person for Oman visa. I think that's it. 637 dhs + gas is what you and your son would be spending vs. 1200 dhs for the tow, for one time renewals. (minimum) 2) fly to doha and back. Flydubai had a sale last year that I took advantage of when I did not yet have a visa. I think it was 450 dhs, plus I didn't have to drive myself to Oman. good luck :) Your family has 30 days + 10 day grace period before accumulating and fees/penalties for overstay. Mind you, I think the first day of overstay is a big "ding"...something like 1500 dhs? and then 200 dhs per day after? ( I think ) You can pay a one-time visa extension. I did it in Abu Dhabi last year and it was 600 dhs (and a pain-in-the-tush). It may cost more now.

They can do a visa run, or you can pay a fee to have their visa extended for another 30 days.. by going to the Department of Naturalisation and Residence... wil prob cost around AED500 Not 100% certain on the fee for visa extension, I did it a couple of years ago so could have changed.

Just go for a weekend trip to Oman. You can drive there. Lots of people do it. Nice time of the year there too.
