If I ever had a maid who lasted more than a year, I'd give her a salary increase after each contract completion.

Maybe the best thing is to just hope that your long term maid will start asking you to slice mango so you can bbb her then start afresh with a new cheaper one. ??????

I think it's a tricky one. If you increase by 200 every year then the percentage increase that she is getting is going down year on year. Which doesn't seem as fair as a set percentage increase each year (based on good performance of course). However, like any job, there has to be a salary ceiling. You can't just getting increases (over and above inflation) every year, once you reach the top level of the salary range you need to change jobs to go past that. Like an associate to partner or a maid to nanny (a proper one). Sorry SM, that's probably not very helpful at all!

So if you had employed her for 10 years then her salary, using this example and sticking with the 200 as opposed to a 10% , would now be 3,600 dhs a month...... I guess this is what I am trying to assess here ...

Yes. Started at 1500AED After 1 year up to 2000AED - explained to her that this increase was significantly more than she could normally expect as it was also taking in to consideration that I'd had a third baby and her workload had increased. After 2 years up to 2200 After 3 years up to 2400 I also give a one months salary bonus upon completion of another year with us. She gets increases every year because I've always been very happy with her standard of work. If I wasn't happy she wouldn't get an increase and I'd tell her why. Before I stopped working my job had performance based salary reviews which I found was a great way of giving people incentive to work hard.

In our previous location, yes we did! Between 5and 10% each year. Not for the sake of increasing, but because we were very happy with her. She has been with us 4 years, until we left. I guess I wll do the same here.

No! my previous HB was with us for 10/11years and we did not increase every year. During the time we gave him 4 pay rises in all. The reasons were because of change of circumstance ie we started off in an apt just 2 of us, then moved to a mid size villa two dogs, then to a large villa with garden and 3 dogs, then our own home with dogs and children.

Current housekeeper with us for 5 years and we have increased salary every year - we did 15% for a couple of years when inflation was at it highest, now we normally do around 6% and then round it up to the nearest 50 AED to make the salary a round figure.
