Hi all.
I have used this forum to search for information and feedback about doctors over the last year, and thought it is time i return the favour.

I have been pregnant 5 times in the past year, and lost 4 of them. Now i am pregnant again and i have gone far enough to see a heartbeat for the first time, and i have no doubt that is all down to seeing Dr Rosalie Sant at Primavera. I can not commend her enough.

Before seeing her, i saw Dr Oksus and Dr Jozsa at Health Bay, and Dr Fakih at Fakih IVF clinic.

Dr Oksus - very nice, and if i had a normal pregnancy i would have been very happy to stay with her. After my second miscarriage she said straight out that she is not a fertility expert, but she was sure it was just bad luck, which is why i wanted to see someone else.

Dr Jozsa - i saw Dr Jozsa aft my 3rd loss. He was recommended to me by 2 friends, one with a normal pregnancy and one who had experienced problems, so i had high hopes. I could not have been more disappointed. He was just not intested and told me he had a patient who had experienced 9 losses before conceiving. I am not sure if that was supposed to be reassuring or if he was telling me not to waste his time. His advice was for me too try again and keep the tissue from the next miscarriage so that i could bring it in for testing. His bedside manner left something to be desired, to say the least.

Dr Fakih - time to see a fertility expert. Sadly, Dr Fakih is a one trick pony. He wants to do IVF and not investigate miscarriages. After a 5 minute consultation he concluded that we needed 2 blood tests which would need to be sent off to Chicago. In total, the tests would cost AED13,900. We decided to get a second opinion before spending the money, which was a good thing as the tests he commended would not have picked up my blood clotting issue, which apparently is much more common that the issues he wanted to test for. I know Fakihs success rates are very high, but i would not recommend him to anyone for his manners and lack of medical rigour. He felt more like a car salesman than a doctor.

For anybody who is suffering from recurent miscarriages, there are any number of often painful and frustrating tests to go through, and then you hope they will throw up something wrong so you can go about treating it. It is hard enough without you needing to fight for your doctor to bother taking an interest. Dr Sant has been a god send, very thorough, detailed, explains every step of the way in a way that people like me, with no medical knowledge, can understand.

Sorry for the very long post, i hope it helps anybody else going through similar experiences.

I have a few friends who have had multiple miscarriages end up with Dr Sant who has helped them through the pregnancy to deliver babies. I personally like that she has "faith" and I know her prayer group prays for some of her patients!

Really excited for you and your lovely little heartbeat. There is no better sound in the world until you hear your first giggle. You've waited soooo long for this, and I know it's going to be amazing :)

I have had quite a few scans with Dr Julia at Primavera and she is very very thorough and she seems highly skilled. Sometimes I find in Dubai in the long run it's worth waiting to see the right person. Dr Sant herself is a very thorough doc with high standards and you can see she has high respect for Dr Julia. I know she obviously would suggest you use her practitioner, but in this case I think I probably would wait a month for a couple of reasons - firstly I would trust Dr Julia to be very thorough and secondly the communication of the results between the ultra sound Dr and the Gynae is very important.

Hi foodie, I am sorry for your losses, it is so hard. And i completely understand what you mean about every cycle feeling like a lifetime. I think Dr Sant will recommend her own ultrasound lady because she is confident in her abilities. Having seen Dr Julia (ultrasound lady) for my 12 week NT scan and comparing it to other people's NT scans, i get the impression that she is very thorough and detailed in comparison. I haven't at any point felt that Dr Sant is money driven, even though she is quite expensive. We did some of my many blood tests at an external lab because it was much cheaper than the lab Dr Sant uses and she was very happy for us to do that, and said she will look into using the cheaper lab herself in the future. I think flydiver is absolutely right about her being very direct and verging on intimidating at times. I appreciate that though, and feel that means i can be as direct with her. I would tell her that you would prefer to act now, and ask if you can get the scan done elsewhere and bring the results in for Dr Sant to review. It is a very personal thing, choosing a Dr to take you through the trauma of miscarriages, but out of all the ones i have seen, she is the one to inspire the most confidence. I hope you manage to get your answers / happy ending. And you too, flydiver.

Dr Sant delivered my 1st, and just dealt with my recent MC. I visited 4 doctors prior to picking her, and I feel that she is thorough, and really knows what she is doing. Although I think she is a very good OBGYN, I find her to be very direct, and sometimes a tiny bit intimidating. She didn't explain much about what to expect during my recent ordeal, or ask me anything about how I was feeling afterwards. But I still feel very confident in her abilities and will continue to stick with her if I'm lucky enough to fall again.

Hi andreag, Thank you for your recommendation. After reading your post, I have decided to see Dr. Sant. I have had two consecutive miscarriages. Although Dr. Sant seemed great, I have a few concerns and I was wondering if you could tell me if you felt that way as well or if they are just "in my head". Since the doctor who performs the ultrasounds at her clinic is travelling, Dr. Sant suggests I wait an additional cycle to get the ultrasound done (since the ultrasound can only happen at a certain time during the cycle). This gets me a little worried as for me every cycle seems like a lifetime and I feel she either does not understand that, or that she is money minded like other doctors and does not want to lose the ultrasound charges? Did you ever feel that way?

Hi Ladies, My husband and I have so many stories to tell about our IVF experiences in and out of Dubai and i felt there is a lacking of a IVF or (Hope for Baby) support groups in Dubai. It is mandatory in the UK and the US to be part of a support group while going through the IVF cycle. It is not mandatory here though but will be very benefitial. We can create a group, send out our message to the community , hold monthly meetings face to face and eventually invite doctors from the medical field to share with us their latest findings. If you are interested, please email me to [email protected]. I am ready to host our first get together! Looking forward!

Hi andreag, congrats and wish you best, I wish you to enjoy each moment of your pregnancy. I just want to thank you for your post and your comments on doctors attitude towards patients. I'm facing problems with getting pregnant (I have a 3yo DD and we've been trying TTC for the last 8 months) and I was recommended Dr Reema from Abbara clinic), got the same feeling as you has about Dr Fakih ("sales lady"). Dubai doctors are very spoiled and extremely commercialized putting profits before patients health. One of my tubes is blocked and I was immediately offered IVF (i was told the cost is AED 30K to 40K including meds). I guess I'll plan a visit to Dr Sant. Hi all.
