Something that some might find entertaining but that infuriated me although it is probably due to my husband just being naive and too trusting...
Over the weekend we bought a second hand toddler bed through dubizzle from what according to hubby sounded like a very pleasant Arabic lady living in Jumeirah and trying to sell their things as they were moving. Cost of the bed: AED 400. While hubby is talking to her on the phone trying to get directions to go and pick up the bed from her house, I write a note to him saying: 'ask her where she bought the bed and what was the original price' but he was almost done with the conversation and did not want to sound rude, so didn't ask. He shows up an hour and a half later with a 'Juniors' bed that is covered in stickers. According to the lady who sold it, BabyShop don't have this bed any longer.
Following day we are out at BabyShop looking at mattresses and mattress protectors. And guess what we see: the very bed we had bought second hand, marked at AED 400 original price, AED 310 sale price.
We felt massively ripped off and stupidly naive for just believing what people say, and thinking that everyone out there is 'bona fide'. Needless to say, this ruined our Saturday.
Just a warning so that it does not happen to others on here too...

Ladies, in case you have not read my posts, I do blame my husband ... Just wish there was less dishonest folk out there. And Sakhifa, yes it is dishonesty - by my and many others' standards. This is not a post against dubizzle, it is precisely warning other potential buyers on dubizzle to do their homework before jumping into forking out the cash.

Dusha, had I been there - trust me - I would have walked away. But hubby went alone bc he thought he would need the space in the car for the bed. KH, after having checked a few shops (not BabyShop) and after seeing the prices for toddler beds, AED 400 seemed like a reasonable price for a second-hand one (based on what we had seen, clearly better quality). But my darling hubby who is always in a rush to buy things, just went with what the Arabic lady told him. I would have normally checked what was the brand and the originally paid price, and stop at the shop on the way to this house to double check. I think this is the end if us buying on dubizzle - sorry for all those honest people who are trying to sell things at a reasonable price, but this has put me off completely. As Kelly says, it's barely worth it. I always say that life pays you back at one point or another for everything you do, and I am sure these people will find this too ;) Sorry, but the problem isn't with Dubizzle, it was with your DH. A seller is always going to try to get as much as possible, with the (right) assumption that there are naive folks like your husband who won't do their research. That's not dishonest, that's business. Buyer beware!

Oh I am sorry to hear this twin_butterfly :( I do buy from dubizzle, but before the deal I do research about the item. That's the best thing to do when you are dealing with dubizzle. And again you don't have to buy the item if it is not in good quality or anything like that as you said it is covered with stickers. Tell them thanks and walk away. edited by Dusha on 02/09/2013

ive read far to many stories like this and its worse when you are trying to sell a car ! If I wanted to buy second hand furniture, I look on the classifieds here or ill pop over to Naif road. some of the stuff they have there is in good condition and you can pay a dude to drop it off at your house as well ! I once found a guy on dubizzle trying to sell some 'designer ties' and the brand was ' Cederwood State ' and he was selling them at 100 dirhams each . That Brand is from Primark and the ties sell brand new in the UK at 4 quid each !

i really think that people selling on dubizzle often have unrealistic expectations on price. yes you can get some bargains, but quite often when you check how much something is brand new and full price (especially electrical stuff) i can't see the point in schlepping around dubai, following odd directions, then maybe discovering their item for sale is far from perfect as they described, to just save 100 dh. i'm really picky about using it now. But then again if there are people like the OP who will pay 25% more than the item is currently selling for new.... who is to blame them edited by IzzyOnTheSeat on 02/09/2013

V. Frustrating to be ripped off like that.

dubizzle is becoming a pain these days. We got our toddler's bed from there few months back and from the person we bought, living in jumeirah, had twins so they had twin bed. I selected the one which had almost no scratches and completely clean. We paid them then and there and couldn't pick it up as already baby was there in the car so no space with the car seat.Husband said he would come later in the evening but went after 1 day. They had dismantled it for us,gave few cot sheets and bumpers, lamp shade (which wasn't even in the add ) and when he came home i asked him did he checked if it was the same one.he said the other one is already sold and picked on the same day we purchased. ok...when the bed was mantled it had lots of scratches and finger nails mark. Trusting dh didn't even checked. it was not the one i selected. guess husbands are like that. Trusting where they shouldn't be..
