No, probably not until next summer! I would definitely recommend you taking care of this when you are there next, so as not to be caught in the situation I now find myself in. Well, I will give it a try and let you guys know how it goes!
Hi! You and I are in a different situation. I don't have to file taxes because I have no income. I am a housewife.
I understand now why you can't renew online. I wonder if they'll say the same thing to me when I try to renew again. It would be nice to know in advance so that I could just renew it in person when I am in the USA before it expires.
Are you planning a trip to Michigan soon?
really? You were able to?? you are right, they might not immediately know, but when I filed my federal taxes last year I had to report that I was living abroad - doesn't this get reported for your state taxes so they know you don't need to file state taxes?
Anyhow I have tried renewing online several times and it says cannot be completed. The rule in Michigan is that if you renewed online last time, you have to go in person this time. I'm pretty sure I renewed online 5 years ago, which is why its not working this time..
I have not been a resident of the state of Massachusetts since 1998 and I was still able to renew mine online about a year or two ago. How would they even know that you live in Dubai?
Yea its not that - they have online renewal - but the thing is, I live in Dubai now, I am no longer a resident in my state. Licenses are done through the states only, so I'm thinking even if I could somehow get this renewed, I don't even think they would let me because I no longer live in the state.
My hope is, that with enough convincing, the RTA here in Dubai will do it. Otherwise I think I'm pretty much screwed!! desperate for ideas, so if anyone has a solution or way out, please send them my way!
My answer to your first question is I doubt it. However, I have no experience with this issue so I am not an authority.
In regards to your second question, you need to check first if the state where your license is allows online renewal. My state does, but I know of another state that does not. Do you know if your state does?
I was a little late in deciding to get a UAE driver's license and now when I was gathering my documents to go apply, I noticed my U.S. driver's license expired a few months ago?!?! I know the requirement probably says "valid" U.S. driver's license, but has anyone had any luck getting a UAE license anyways with an expired one?
Secondary question - is there a way to renew a driver's license from abroad? I tried online and it wont allow me except in person... the DMV is managed through individual states so I don't think the US Embassy would be able to do anything? ideas anyone??
