My ds is 4 months old and still wakes up every 3 if I'm lucky then 4 hrs to feed.....wondering when sleeping through the night happens and what can I do to encourage it.

My son slept around 10 hours by 10 weeks, then regressed at 5 months and fi ally started sleeping through at 13 months. Like others have found, he just got there by himself and wasn't sleep trained. It almost happened overnight and he has been a great sleeper since although at 3 1/2 we are now in the " bad dreams" phase. My daughter is 15 months and still wakes several times, it drives me to distraction sometimes but having been through it once and survived, I can see the end.

Crikey Tattie, 4 years of it, you must have been cream crackered! I thoroughly recommend cranial and general osteopathy for babies too, it sorted out issues with a couple of my little ones. TDB, so pleased to hear your LO has started sleeping through.

If you had a difficult birth I'd recommend all of you to take your LOs for cranial osteopathy which gently massages baby after a difficult birth which leads to associated sleeping problems for years afterwards. I had 4 years of being awake up to 5 times a night until we did this. edited by Tattie Bogle on 28/01/2014

My little boy is 15 months. He started sleeping through the night (That is 7pm to 6am) without a feed a week shy of turning 1. I was going to attempt to drop his last night bottle after he turned one but he just started sleeping through on his own, thank goodness. My little girl slept through 12 hours a night from 14 weeks old but that went out the window as soon as she started getting teeth and getting illnesses. She is still a crappy sleeper at times at almost 4 years of age :) edited by Thunderbird on 28/01/2014 edited by Thunderbird on 28/01/2014

If I'm totally honest, my ds slept through 7pm-6am at 1 year old. But he did that himself, I didn't coax him or push him into it. He did that when we got back for a holiday in the UK.

My first baby slept through from about 4 months. The next two babies not until they were at least one. Current baby is still having two night feeds at 11 months. My tolerance to lack of sleep has increased with each baby and I've given up trying to find what works!

Try giving a drop of water at night, sometimes they only wake out of habit and not because they are hungry. If you give him water and he doesnt really want it then he is probably just waking out of habit

Hi...I can feel your pain lol. my 6.5m old has only just started sleeping through to 5:30/6am, with a dream feed at 10pm. My DD slept through from 12 weeks pretty much, and DS1 from around 4 months. I followed the same routine with all three of them from birth (pretty much get in as much food between 7am and 6pm as possible, with some napping during the day) but was a bit more relaxed about it with the third. this may be why he took his time to drop the 2/3am feed. although he rarely took more than 100-120mls at any one time, so probably did need the extra middle of the night top up until he was established on solids. So basically, it depends on the baby in my experience. I would just persevere with your routine to try and get the max amt of milk in during daytime hours, and eventually he'll come right. HTH
