have already posted this on the PETS section but wondered if anyone else could help:

Ladies,

Came into work this morning and two of the watchmen had found a VERY LARGE and rough looking Amazon Parrot running around outside our building.

I have rang Nad Al Sheba Vets but they said they can’t help me - slightly strange as when we found an African Grey Parrot last year they were very, very helpful.

Do any of you ladies know who would take it in and care for it until a new home is found or its owners are found!?

I should mention I work on SZR near to Trade Centre Roundabout.

Any advise would be great!

Dear Ladies, Apologies I did not get back to you earlier. Thursday was a bit of a blur, what with the last day of work and then having a parrot to deal with!! After speaking with Safa Vets, we were given the number of a fabulous lady called Ayesha who runs – Dubai Animal Rescue Centre. She has took the parrot to get better and then hopefully re-home if all is OK - i.e after a check over from the vets! If any of you are still interested to adopt the parrot after he is better than please just give her a call. (give her a google, you'll find her website) Thank you all again for your suggestions!

I would call Nad al sheba back. Ask to speak with someone in charge rather than reception.

You must take it in to Nad Al Sheba for a blood test, this will be costly, but necessary to rule out disease. If you need a home for it, pls let me know.

As I mentioned earlier, I would be happy to have the parrot. We have experience and the means to offer he/she a great home. We just had dinner and it is all we spoke about.

Normally, ad al Sheba will do all what they could to help and re-unite bird and owner, so very strange that they said they couldn't. Ok, if they can't help, it's perhaps they are already full...which is not a good news because that would mean lots of owner letting their bird behind. Other worry to have, it that the is a virus that is transmitted every easily to bird and basically kill them. Some parrots some pet shops had that, and it's very dangerous for the other parrots you will have. It's so contagious that even if you buy a toy in the same shop, your bird can be contaminated. I was told by NAS vet that I should always keep a new bird in quaranteen, particularly if it comes from a pet shop, and I was told the toys part by a friend - bird expert.... If the parrot is in rough condition, it's perhaps it escape from a petshop (the conditions of the birds there are sometime so bad that I would just by them to save them...but them, it's giving water to the business....). Or it's because it is outside since a long time (which means he is exposed to various bird virus since a while)... so basically, if NAS is already full, I can understand they can't take the chance to put the other birds at risk. Now, what needs to be done is check if the bird had a microship. You can check with your vet next door, no need to go to NAS. And eventually, if you need help, I can help you. We have an extra cage where the parrot can go (My husband might kill me for that...but then...my marriage is strong right now ;) Email @ tikidxb at gmail dot com. :)

Call Pet Connection vets (04 4475307) behind MoE and close to Lulu / Dubai American Academy. One of their vets, Dr Walter, specialises in birds and Im sure he would be happy to help/advise. Hmm the best bird specialist is Dr Chris at Nadd al Sheba vets.
