I'm just thinking about how to manage pushing a shopping trolley with a newborn; have seen the hug-a-bub ones online but don't know if it's worth the AED300. Is it better just to put the car seat in the trolley? I don't want to create a problem with a baby that won't be put down! Perhaps there are better makes or more user friendly versions out there?

Aryanwynn, according to a poster in this thread, it's 9:30 - 11:30am. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=133197 I assume there's no need to book, but I don't know I'm afraid. Maybe post a query in that thread? xx edited by BFC on 10/01/2011 Ta BFC I hadn't seen that thread. Great minds think alike ;)

For those in Dubai, there is a babywearing workshop this coming Thursday at Dubai Mall Organic Cafe. This would give you the opportunity to try out different kinds of slings.

I have a Baby K (mothercare) sling which is free to a good home. I never got on with any baby carriers (tho my husband does love his Ergo) - I was always too hot in them! Anyone who wants it let me know.

I have a peanut shell that I bought from baby souk and absolutely love it! When ds was a newborn he was cradled in it, and now at 9 months and 9 kgs it's much more comfortable holding him on my hip with it than just with my arms. I fly a lot and now don't even bother with the stroller, just use the peanut shell. It's also great for the grocery shop as much easier to push the cart that way.

I used the Boba carrier and i loved it! But its only suitable for kids who are atleast 7kgs. WIth your newborn, maybe u shud just out the carseat in the trolley. Atlast thats wat i used to do :) One of the things u shud keep in mind with a baby carrier is that if u have a boy dont get the ones that are like underwear.. u know wat i am saying? Basically the seat of the carrier should be wide, else its too much pressure on the baby boy's privates. I hope u understand what i am saying.

Oh ask me, ask me!!! I love my baby bjorn and have used it for my previous two DS's and it was great, but for really LO's they can kind of be a little smothered - my SIL has just bought me the hug-a-bub wrap and I can't wait to use it!!! I have tried it on and it's super comfortable and it's going to mean some lovely cuddles with DS when he's able to go in it! :D

I have the sleepy wrap, baby bjorn and Mei Hip. The sleepy wrap is fantastic for newborns, the Mei hip gives excellent support when carrying larger babies/toddlers. From where did you get the sleepy wrap, lemondrops? I bought mine online http://www.sleepywrap.com/

Lol HK you're a honey :) A "problem" is my previous 3 who wouldn't sleep unless they were on top of me or carried or rocked - sigh - just can't do that again! Just a lazy mother who ends up making more work for herself! Have seen a pic of one Baby Bjorn and it looked kind of stiff - may be wrong, but I wanted something close fitting and cozy. ahhh... so you have a history! lol The baby Bjorn wasn't stiff - it's just padded and holds them tight. I also had a mahooooosive wrap-sling which was more like a toga, so once we were both wrapped together, there was no coming out! I do quite like the look of the ones with the D-rings, but could never find the name... and I'm not planning on having another!

I love my ergo, but it's more expensive than the one you mentioned. Baby bjorn was nice as well, it didn't feel stiff to me. There are a ton of second hand bbs on dubizzle at any time.

there are so many out there, it really depends on personal preference. Baby Bjorns are pretty good (I used one). As for creating a problem, bless you, you won't. Well, what's a problem anyway? Certainly carrying bubs for 30 minutes isn't going to mean there's a lifetime habit built there and then. Plus you may find you like carrying him... or that he doesn't like being carried. Who knows! Certainly the main thing to bear in mind is that everyone's different - and one person's "bad habit" just simply isn't an issue for another. Some people even suggest that a carried/ cuddled baby grows up to be a better adjusted individual than one who is left to cry it out/ isn't cuddled/carried so much.
