When did your child drop a nap (go from 2 naps to 1)? DD is 1 year old and she resists her 2nd nap. I am wondering if it's time to drop it...but I don't want her to sleep-deprived.

My little one just turned one and she's also dropped down to one nap most days. Depending on what time she wakes up in the morning, she will take her nap at about 2pm and will sleep for about 2hrs. If she is extra active in the morning (if we take her swimming or to the playground) she will take a late morning nap for about an hour as well as her afternoon nap. Her bedtime doesn't differ (8:30pm) and sleeps through until about 8:30am. I still have to take it day by day with her and watch her body language for signs of tiredness but being a stay-at-home allows me to be flexible and adaptable to her needs.

Thanks ladies. Last two days, she had one nap. But today, she went down for her usual morning nap (around 10ish). I wonder if she will need another nap later...

Our dd dropped her 2nd nap at around 1. She now has 1 nap a day after lunch and its longer, about 2 hours.

DD is 13 months and dropped her second nap at around 7-8 months. Now I am lucky if she does even 1 nap a day. If she does nap the once, its only for 35-45 minutes and then she is up until midnight. Don't know how to change this pattern as it is very frustrating for me. She only sleeps if I am next to her and wakes up as soon as I wake up in the morning.

DD dropped her second nap around 18months however she was always a big sleeper. It will take time for them to adjust and you to work out whats the best time, it may be that she has a slightly longer nap just after lunch instead of one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Or you may need to put her down to bed a little earlier. it all works out in the end. :)

I think both my two dropped to 1 nap at around a year old. Just go with the flow and put LO down when s/he shows the signs... and get them up when they wake. You may find that nap times change too, as well as duration. It may take a week or two for you both to settle into the new routine. Oh, and 2 naps to 1 is easy-peasy in comparison to dropping naps completely! The pain!
