Yes Clare, and with a maid to look after poor Sir! Cheeky Monkey, 23 beds, that's quite some achievement!

...and does anyone else have the added insult when arriving back in Dubai, nerves in tatters, a case full of laundry, having queued at DXB for two hours at immigration and waited 30 minutes in a chaotic taxi queue, one's husband assumes you've had an amazing time while he's been 'stuck' here and taking full advantage of shorter working hours and lie-ins and takeaways ad infinitum. Sigh...

Apart from very squashed, we'd probably all be bored stiff on a sun lounger for weeks at a time...or maybe not! Good thing we have all these beautiful idyllic places on our doorstep the rest of the year for short little hops to make up for the summer grand tours! Looks like I'm far from alone in our extensive tour. Stay sane all you ladies in the same boat, and let's all enjoy catching up with distant friends and family.

next year let's all go to Mauritius (or insert alternative but equally fabulous destination) and stay on one sun lounger for the duration???!! :sun::) Yes. PLEEEEEASE! But could I have my own sun lounger? If there's going to be a few of us, one lounger between us all might be a bit of a squeeze, I'm not as slim as I used to be... ;)

Count me in for Mauritius! Or maybe we can take over a whole smaller island of the Seychelles? I will be embarking on 6.5 weeks of travel to multiple countries and to multiple destinations within countries, by plane, train, automobile and boat. (DH will join for 2 weeks.) We haven't yet found the right formula for summers. http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/entertainment/articles/2015-06/22/private-island-laucala-fiji-tagomago-ibiza-seychelles-north-new-york http://www.businessinsider.com/private-islands-you-can-afford-to-rent-2012-4

I can totally sympathise. I think our record was: 5 weeks, 6 flights 4 countries 23 different beds With a 5 year old...:lol: Edited to add: Forgot to mention we also did over 1000 miles in a hire car...

Take Care VictoriaM, look after yourself between the various travels and visits. Don't do what I always end up doing which is leaving a trail of my belongings across the breadth of the country, due to hurried packing and being in a state of perpetual motion. And between launderettes (yes, I chose one holiday park because it has a coin operated launderette! How sad is that?!). Living out of a voluminous suitcase is tiring - but hope you get some fun adventures wherever you go. I complain but actually people are usually very sweet and spoil my son (the visits are for him mainly as I can go much longer without seeing MIL, believe me!) and people are very kind to offer hospitality. This year I got wise and sent ahead my wine delivery - a box of 12 from Tesco! So that's another thing I won't have to lug around! :-) Happy travels and go steady and safely

Lucky you SIlvstet. If they are elderly and/or in poor health it's not quite that simple unfortunately. We have 2 key family members (stepmom and brother) with serious back conditions who can'tt go on flights over 2 hours, so can't wait until they come here.

I sympathise Clare! We are in a similar boat and I too say never again but then find I have no realistic option. Family that is spread out geographically and can't, in many cases, travel for valid reasons such as advanced age or bad backs. We are in 5 different UK cities in the first week! no wonder I'm feeling daunted. To be honest it does get better after that first particularly difficult week though. Your trip sounds particularly arduous. Some family members can, and are, coming to us, but most can't. It's also not necessarily easy to put people up, especially when you're staying with someone else or in small rented accomodation. So unfortunately MaryCatherine, planting ourselves centrally would not work. Day trips would not be possible as the family is too spead out - a central point would still be 2 hours plus drive from both sides of the family. Never mind, at least we are fortunate enough to be able to see our family. It is always lovely to see everyone, even though it is exhausting , as you say Claire.

Every year I tell myself I will never do the nomad thing ever again, and then what do I do - I go back and do it all over again! Myself and my son (age 8) go back for a few weeks each summer, leaving hubby here to work and he doesn't like going back to Uk as he always gets hayfever and a cold and chest infection, has to pay for everyone and everything, everywhere we go with family and friends, and it gets tedious very quickly. Last year my son and I did 12 stops in 21 days. we covered over 300 miles in UK, a holiday park, airbnb, an airport hotel, lots of trains and buses (which affects how I can pack). Our various families don't and won't travel further than about 2 miles and they are all spread out. My Mum lives in ieland and sometimes drives over with the car on the ferry to see us which means our accommodation has to be larger than for two people, all paid by us, and it is lovely to see everyone but by the end I am a dribbling, broke, exhausted, tearful wreck and chomping at the bit to fly back home to Dubai. This year we're doing 8 stops in 3 weeks, including 2 holiday parks, two hotels, 6 trains, 3 family visits, and the complaining about having to drive for an hour (from one side of the family) really makes me very drained. Sigh, Remind me why I do it again??

I've been a total gypsy as well, except the travel is for work. I seem to be the harbinger of doom as well--I book my trip, and then lo and behold, get the weather updates and freak out. 2 floods, a tornado, and 2 hurricanes since early May! I stress about flying in those conditions :/ Actually..I rather miss that weather now that I am in the sandpit for another 2 weeks. This is not my favorite time of year

SaraLou, I was thinking further about it and realised I don't actually want to stay here either because of the heat, so agree with you on that one. Perhaps living out of a suitcase is the lesser of two evils! I am sure that like you I will enjoy it once I get there, just that at this instant the thought of all the to-ing and fro-ing, driving, organising, coordinating, rushing around with kids and luggage doesn't sound very appealing! Hope the weather is indeed on the turn. Saw a Friend's Facebook page yesterday and they were still dressed in jeans and boots holding their umbrellas!

Is there somewhere you could "plant" yourselves that is central for the family to come to you? It's what my sisters have done, especially when they had more than 1 child. Sure, you may have to make some day trips depending on where you are, but nothing can make up for having your own space and making your own routines around visitors. You may find family might prefer this setup, because after all, they're giving up their privacy and routines (usually) to try and accommodate you and yours to some degree. Some might say it costs too much financially, but the peace of mind and lowered stress levels? Priceless. Hope you find a solution to fit your family

I cant imagine spending the whole summer holidays without my husband. That would be utter torture. We are going to try and have a go somewhere without him for two weeks after our holidays with him though so will see how that goes.... He only got 10 days leave for the summer so not much so we will also be living like gypsies and going wherever the wind takes us. Lol!

Am I the only one feeling overwhelmed by the thought of a nomadic summer spent living out of a suitcase travelling around the UK (or whatever your home country is)? All booked but don't want to go, at all. Totally stressed thinking about it all. We've done it before, that's how I know what it's like! I have to travel to family for various reasons (health/age) so have to do the obligatory tour. Hard isn't it, especially when we have to do this on our own, leaving husbands behind. Anyone else feel the same way? I have just recently come back from the UK and although I hate living out of a suitcase I was blubbering the day I flew back The weather was on the turn for the better and the thought of returning to the heat here turned me into a crying mess Fast forward 3 days and my own bed and I am slightly happier at being back. I don't know what it must be like for people who leave their Husbands here and travel home for the entire school holidays. 10 days wasn't long enough for me as I usually head back in August not June
