Hello Ladies,
My father who is a hemo-dialysis patient will be visiting us soon. I would appreciate if you share your experiences on dialysis treatment here in Dubai and suggestions regarding the hospitals and/or clinics...
TIA

Things like this reinforce why this forum is so great :-) And HUGE kudos to your parents (in-law and friends).

My mother in law had her dialysis at the American hospital last month. I called almost all the hospitals and American and another hospital are the only ones in Dubai that take non resident international patients. The staff at the hospital are fantastic, polite, efficient and helpful and they made her feel very comfortable. She was very apprehensive at first (coming from the UK she thought she would'nt get the same standard of treatment/ care) but her experience here was very positive and the care and attention here was far better then what she recieves in the UK. Bear in mind its very costly - one session is 900aed and mother in law needed 3 treatments a week, as do most dialysis patients I think. The patient can also bring their own medication (anything additional) with them and the hospital will use that thus saving you money - mother in law had one vaccination with her from the UK which they used here as part of her treatment. Each session lasted 4 hours and they were always very punctual - my mother in law never waited more then 10 mins after arriving to get all set up on the machine. Your father will need to fax over his dialysis documents and some blood test results a few weeks before he arrives here and also you need to book the sessions weeks before the treatment here begins as the best time slots get taken very quickly. Good luck -make sure you call them asap because like I mentioned they need his medical history etc weeks before he arrives here. The person you should speak to at the American hospital is Raef - just ask for the dialysis co-ordinator when you call. He was fantastic, he deals with international patients and will give you all the information you require. edited by desertrose on 17/01/2011
