i think maids are permitted to sleep outside, but i would really think twice before allowing her to do it. she might be staying with a boyfriend, not a relative. i know people who allow their maids to sleep out one night, but personally i wouldn't considering that the employer is responsible for pretty much everything. i explained to our maid before we hired her that she can spend the whole day out, but needs to be home by 7pm, and she was ok with that. but it all depends on what you're comfortable with. i interviewed a maid who wanted her husband to stay the night once in a while and for me it was a big no-no. but somebody else hired her, so obviously they were ok with it. do it, but at your own risk. Fair enough, each to their own. When I had a live in maid she was actually older than me (she was 40 I think) and I would personally have a serious problem giving someone older than me a curfew. It's just wrong! lol edited by Tru Blu on 19/02/2011then you cannot differentiate between employer/employee properly. If age comes into it, then you lost your role.

Ok. Thanks all. So basically of course let her have a night "away" from home (I don't mind and YES I would like a night with out her) BUT if anything happens to her, I will get into trouble? Thanks again! yes, the sponsor is responsible for her. There are plenty of maids looking for work and you haven't sponsored her yet so keep looking, you will find the right fit soon.;)

This whole process of finding a maid seems so complicated! I just hope to find someone that will be nice to my kids and trustworthy.... Thanks again!

Or that you as an employer are not taken advantage of. Ours slept out once a week and we never realised that she was babysitting and sleeping at another family rather than taking time of and relax. It was only when boss 2 phoned and I overheard a conversation that we realised what she was up to.

PS this will be moved to maids section. The maid is your responsibility, so no matter what ever happens on her night away from your home, it will be your responsibility (pregnancy etc)....this is the way the law works. SHe is a female and in this country needs the protection of her employer or family to ensure she is not taken advantage of.

Can't think of a reason why not. It would probably be nice for you to have a night without her as well....

Hi all, I am about to hire a maid but she wants to sleep out one night a week (ie.@ a relative's home). If I am ok with it, is it allowed? Also, what is the process to transfer her visa? Thanks, PS
